Dammit, this was supposed to be the year I started going to more shows again.

Relish these. I skipped The Truckers/Lucero and Widespread twice.

Maybe this year I will venture out again and see a show but I doubt it.

Also, I hate you Rick Derris. I'm gonna cut your pimp's heart out.

The national twice, and TVOTR, which was great. Asobi seksu twice which was great but probably unecessary. mogwai was probably the worst show that i saw this year, other than Be Your Own Pet. although i was shithoused for that one.

there is only one more show i'm planning to see this year, but that's on new year's. so, essentially, the 10 best sets in chronological order:

wolfmother @ empty bottle, february 16
mogwai @ metro, may 19
boris @ lsa, may 26
boredoms @ intonation, june 24
jon brion @ intonation, june 25
dwight yoakam @ park west, august 30
girls against boys @ touch & go, september 8
rodrigo y gabriela @ old town, september 20
okkervil river @ schubas, october 7
el vez @ subterranean, december 9

and some extras...

most disappointing:

saint etienne @ metro, february 15
guillemots @ schubas, march 19
sigur ros @ civic opera house, may 9
rancid @ house of blues, september 11
justice @ smartbar, november 2

biggest surprises, in a good way:

the cloud room @ double door, march 24
lady sovereign @ intonation, june 24
amadou & mariam @ pritzker pavilion, june 29

I complain a lot about how many acts skip over St. Louis, but honestly if I still lived in Chi-town, I'd be going to shows three times a week and wouldn't have a penny to piss on.
