I need to buy a round-trip ticket from HNL to Chicago on short notice. I haven't bought airfare in awhile and usually go through a travel agent but I want to know if any Obners had good experiences purchasing tickets on-line lately? Note: I don't want to a bidding thing like Priceline.

Your suggestions are appreciated.

Check out airfarewatchdog.com

I've purchased 2 flights via that site in the past month, both pretty good deals. They find the lowest available prices and then route you to one of several ticketing sites.

I just hadda buy a couple tickets yesterday; checked the travelocity and orbitz's of the world and just ended up getting them directly from delta.com--for once they actually had the best price and I like being able to pick my own seats.

Yeah, I check Orbitz and then the specific sites of certain airlines that aren't on Orbitz (e.g., Southwest). However, once I use Orbitz to determine what is cheapest, I usually then go to that airline's site and buy from there as it's usually a bit cheaper and you get bonus miles.

I wish those fuckers would start flying out of Atlanta. Southwest too.

Maybe when Delta goes under for good.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, JetBlue doesn't get out here either. I ended up looking at the deals on Orbitz and Travelocity (they both had the same prices, I don't know how they make any money at all) then called United Airlines to book the same flight for the same amount of money.

R/T = $663 ouch but it is sort of last minute.

Yeah I made the mistake of flying AA to when I went to SXSW this year and had to transfer at Dallas when JetBlue flies directly into Austin from Boston. And on the way back, I missed my connecting flight in Dallas because AA was delayed and had to take a plane back to NY and then took the bus home from there. And they couldn't find my luggage when I got back. So annoying.

for what it's worth, i bough some Northwest airlines vouchers on ebay for 10 bucks that saved us 100 bucks per flight. You get the voucher number in a couple of hours and use it on the nwa website. I had already looked and they had the cheapest tickets, so it was 100 off that. Other airlines prob have the same kind of thing. It was weird that the airline site had cheaper rates than a bunch of the 'discount' sites.

Yeah, I called...

#1. I had to verify something with the airlines that I couldn't do online.

#2. There's no way in hell I'm ever giving my credit card number out over the internet. Can you say identity theft?

While I understand your fear of identity theft in principle, what you're basically saying is that you trust a random person to enter your credit card number into United's systems more than you trust yourself to enter it directly.
