One of the best of the year, and I don't think I've seen it discussed here. Folky, intense, distorted noise, sweet found sound. Great for that "winter solstice ambience" getting ready for the longest night of the year.

RIYL: Six Organs of Admittance, Juana Molina, David Sylvain, Fairport Convention, Thuja, Sufjan Stevens, Califone, Blithe Sons, Jose Gonzalez

mmmm...

1) a music-related thread

2) sounds wonderful, thanks for the recommendation

:)

PS - that is one hell of a heavy weight RIYL!

I don't know where he's from, but that's not his real name.

Also, interesting you post on this, Harry. I just ordered the CD this morning. I'm looking forward to it.

I think he's a francophile poser. Probably from some northeastern US place.

Lost at Sea interview:

weird thing is he's been recording for ten years, and he's 20 now.

He's from michigan i think, and yes, this album is excellent (currently in my top 20 even). It kind of reminds me of manitoba (caribou) in that he uses organic sounds in interesting electronic ways (though they don't sound like each other at all), and also reminds me of another record I liked very much from last year by Bibio called Fi. If you like this record, you should check that one out as well, or vice-versa.

Completely agree. It's pretty amazing. I think this Stylus reviewprovides a solid description.

What an unexpected surprise this late in the year. First few plays won't reveal this beautifully crafted work with its layers upon layers, but will unfold like a surreal dream full of hooks and Eno-like noise wrapped around simple folk songs. It's a perfect length at under forty minutes.

Yeah, I'm a late comer as well. Probably only listened to it 2-3 times, so I've gotta spin it more. But the initial reaction is very good!

Just read this name for the first time a few days ago and downloaded but haven't listened yet.

I think it might've been in Filter. But it sounded good.
