According to Philly.com, AI to Denver for Andre Miller, Joe Smith's expiring contract, and Denver's two first round picks in 2007.

I like this trade a lot. The Sixers main goal was to get first round picks and expiring contracts.

i still feel like the Nuggets are overpaying just based upon how desperate Philly was to trade him, but not a horrible deal for either team.

A week ago Denver could have gotten him for next to nothing, but now they are sort of bent over a table with the Carmelo Anthony suspension. I'm really not sure how much this helps the Nuggets, since Anthony and Iverson might not mix to well.
I'd still probably say I view this as an even trade, since they both get a chance to solve their current problems and possibly redeem this season.

Yeah, Pat's right. The only reason the Nuggets are doing this is because they have no choice with the lengthy Carmelo (NOT MELLOW) suspension.

you don't think that would automatically make them a better team? they're obviously not going to give up pierce and from what i heard i could live without jefferson and telfair.

Maybe better as in the leap from lottery team to 8 seed, but that's about it.

Good point. The Celtics only have to finish 20 games under .500 to win their division.

I can't believe the Sixers actually got 2 first round picks in the deal. That gives them 3 in 2007, which is supposedly a very deep draft.

Onto the Greg Oden sweepstakes...

That was my thought as well. Even in a deep draft how many gems get pulled out of the late first round?

I think the trade was good for both teams.....it will look better when philly gets the #1 pick and Greg Oden is holding up his new philly jersey...the other 2 first rounders may allow them to get an older solid college player and a young athletic point to learn the ropes from Miller for a few years before being pushed into a starting position. They could start to build around Oden and Igoudala.

That's if they get the #1 pick. Durant or Noah wouldn't be bad either.

Obviously the Nuggets get Iverson...one of the top 5-10 players in the league.

Win - win

The trade only really makes every other team who didn't trade for him look bad, considering the Nuggets gave up jackshit. Grant it, Andre Miller is a pretty good point guard, you can't really include him because he's probably not in their long term plans. I'm absolutely amazed no one put together a better package.

i dont' think anyone is implying that two late round first picks are equal to Allen Iverson. It IS a great trade for the Sixers.

Yeah, no one was implying that because no one seemed to even know the picks were likely to be late first round picks anyways.

the Sixers get to continue to suck, which I guess is a win because they're clearly fine with tanking. but I mean despite them being desperate to uh, tank even more?, they apparently got a lot more than they would have a week ago, (a lot more being 2 late first rounders and a 30 year old point guard), I mean could you honestly come up with the sixers getting less value in return?

I just don't understand any of the logic in this thread. The Nuggets are going to be an interesting team now, and the sixers will probably be the worst team of all time for the rest of this season(you know, without that overrated chucker that's holding them back).

ROSS, I think you're under the assumption that the Sixers are still trying to win. I think they've cashed in this season.

I don't follow the NBA very closely (although I did see my Hawks COMPLETELY shit the bed last night) but it seems to me that the Sixers get rid of a player that didn't really want to be there (or was unwanted, which makes him kind of cancerous), get a pretty decent point guard whose upside is huge, and after this season Joe Smith's contract is up which will free up cap space.

So, in the end, if you buy that they've given up on this season, they get a good point guard, cap space, and a 3 first round picks (possibly a lottery pick).

If their plan is for rebuilding, it's an excellent deal for them.

they've been trying to get rid of Iverson for three years, there were no deals available and the fact that this fight happened caused them to get by far the best deal they've been offered. they want to hit rock bottom, strip their salary and start new. They achieved all of that.

I think most of the other deals they've been getting for the last few years didn't include the salary dump. They were always getting average players with high salaries back.

No, I'm not under that impression. I'm under the impression they could have gotten more for their rebuilding plan than 2 late first rounders in addition to cap relief. Andre Miller's more than decent but he's also 30, so he doesn't really matter. They didn't get a lottery pick through this trade, they get a lottery pick because they're absolutely abysmal. Honestly, any deal wouldn't be horrible for the Sixers considering their only focus really was to free up a little cap space and get rid of Iverson, but they got so little in return other than cap space that it's hard to call it a win for them. I personally think this is a completely huge steal for the Nuggets, and can't believe another team refused to make a better package.

How they couldn't get at least a moderately talented young player is beyond me. A Shaun Livingston/Marvin Williams level talent.
