Personally, I rarely if ever even look at PFM anymore, but I do respect what they have done.

EDIT: 8 of my personal Top 50 on the PFM list.

I read Pitchfork less this year than ever.... yet at least 20 or more of these are in my top 50, only rearranged in order.

A pretty safe list really. Does anyone here love The Knife? That's the weirdest thing about the list...

Edit and double check: I have exactly 20 of these 50 on my 50.... might be interesting to see who has the most PFM on their own lists and so win the Redundant Useless Indie Taste Award.

I put one of those tracks (#2) in my Top 5 of the last 30 yrs picks for the wife's party. At first it was all more well-known stuff, but the longer I thought about it, the more I felt she deserved to be there. That album is amazing.

After further investigation, I have 7 of their records in my Top 50, 2 of which are Top 20. Sigh

The fact that I own 12 of these albums and only consider maybe 5 to be worthy of top-50 status reminds me what a boring year for music this has been.

People are either listening to the wrong stuff, have entirely different taste than me or both. I've only heard 3 things on that list.

2006 is the best year for music since 1991 IMO.

My lack of indie cred is intact- I've heard (and own) exactly 1 out of 100; and if it was this time last week, it would have been 0.

It took a PF end-of-year list for you to figure this out?

none of those albums are in my top 20. 50% of them i didn't care for (or just didn't make the cut), the other half i have not heard yet. time will tell if the list has any value to me....

also, i think since we spend a good deal of time creating our lists in order, it's not fair to compare our top 20 to their top 50. we should compare 20 vs. 20 and 50 vs. 50.

This is pretty expected for Pfork.

Most of the discs in their top ten I don't care for. But most of them represent an entire genre of music I don't really like. The discs they selected could very well be the best that genre has to offer.

Another vote for never heard a single thing by the Knife, though.

I think I counted 12 that were in my top 50. And the other 38, I had pretty much either never heard of/never listened to.

That Tim Hecker album is great. I really should have bought that by now.

I've only listened to that Fujiya & Miyagi album once so far, but I was seriously disappointed in it.

Also, I've only heard one song by Phoenix, and I thought it was pretty bad.

Beach House & Mastodon will both be in my top 20.

My biggest surprise was Boris at 9. Which really shouldn't, since PF has ridden Boris's crotch since I can remember.

Knife is a good release. Not 1 for me, but still a worthwhile release.

Well, not quite pointless, but I can't believe it's not there. I'm currently obsessed with it

Well, they didn't have Broken Social Scene on the list last year. Something against Canada, it seems.
