I don't know what song I heard, but it was on this terrible comp I got for free. Maybe it was just bad context.

That Tim Hecker album is great. I really should have bought that by now.

I've only listened to that Fujiya & Miyagi album once so far, but I was seriously disappointed in it.

Also, I've only heard one song by Phoenix, and I thought it was pretty bad.

Beach House & Mastodon will both be in my top 20.

man Phoenix is like my number 1

its solidly in my top 10. great fucking record.

This thread is funny. It started off as an anti-Pitchfork backlash thread and then turned into an anti-anti-Pitchfork backlash thread. Even people who don't realize it are saying the list isn't bad (shiverhead says that "only" 11 albums from their list will be in his top 20... that seems like a lot of overlap to me).

the only backlash i hold for them rests in the knowledge that they were once the indie site breaking the rules of the man and now they are the indie man setting the trends and creating some sort of unspoken pressure on other indie sites to do things the pfm way. of course, that doesn't make much sense so i should just leave this topic alone. ;)

Makes TOTAL sense and I agree with you 100%. McSweeney's Syndrome. Outsider website turned trendsetter. Going from making fun of what's in vogue to dictating it.

I own 15 of the 50 most of which would be in my top 50..which really does not say much because I only purchased around 65 cds this year, as I'm fairly old school in that I don't download music or even own an ipod. Give me an open road and a loud car stereo and I'm gone.

I didn't mean to imply that you were (I also wasn't wanking), but your use of the word "only" made me think you were saying that the overlap was small.

The first time I visited PF's web site this year was to read their top 50. I rely on the obnizzle for practically all of my recommendations.
