Two of my favourite bands of recent years are Kings Of Leon and Drive By Truckers.

They putting something in the water down there in recent years.
Haven't been that into Southern Rock before, but this is kicking my ass. Thanks to all y'all who've turned me on to these guys.

Todd,

I too love the Truckers, they are, in my opinion, the best the ol' USA has to offer. I like KOL too. But who I really love and you should try, if you already have'nt, is Lucero. Any of their last 3 records are fabulous. I am a huge Skynyrd/Allman Brothers fan though from way back. Curious as to where you stand on The Black Crowes.

I'll second Lucero.

I love 'em both, but I'm probably looking more forward to the new KoL album than any other 2007 release, Spoon included!

Lucero's great, but I've got to say I think "That Much Further West" is significantly better than their other albums.

Possibly true but as time goes on, I'm liking the new one more and more.

Also, the title and subject of this thread are fucking embarrassing.

I'm just now warming up to DBT since purchasing The Dirty South earlier this year. But Kings Of Leon's Aha Shake Heartbreak was a huge album for me last year. And the new album is easily my most highly anticipated right now.

They've mentioned this is a bigger sounding album with anthemic choruses. Not sure how I should interpret that. They consider this their make or break album.

Haha, yeah. I'm not sure it's much to the South's credit that it's produced 2 good bands this decade.

And plenty more. I'm just saying, if Todd's right that 2 good bands = rising, the South must have been pretty far down.

I'm getting 2 of the albums in this thread (Dirty South & That Much...) for my friend in an effort to pull him out of the O.A.R. and Kenny Chesney-listening mire in which he wallows.

oh lord, no. do you think brad would listen to kenny chesney? man, i hope not. i guess o.a.r.'s not too far afield for him though.

but these are for my old college roommate turned army guy turned pharma salesman. i've turned him on to some good stuff, like old 97s, but he just has no discernment.

Louisville is practically Indiana which is a suburb of Chicago, but sure, you can have em.

It's too bad the studio stuff doesn't stack up to the live shit.

I remember that guy... he crashed on our couch and we were all fairly blitzed...

this might have been during and/or after you moved. I'm not sure.

Thread title was nothing more than to get the attention of the Southerners on this board (who turned me on to those bands).

But yeah, I've heard Lucero too and, while I like them, they haven't hit me in the same way. DBT and KoL were instant and have stuck with me for a while now.

Sorry about the thread title.
Still.
Seems to have worked.
