Best list I've seen on Obner yet. Actual listenable music - and stuff you'll want to listen to in 5 years. And granola bars to you on the choice of John Mayer. I could be counted among the haters just a couple months ago but then I decided to actually make up my own mind about him and gave Continuum and Try! a chance. I fell in love, too. It won't be number one (that goes to Tom Waits' Orphans box) but it's pretty damned high up there.

Mayer's new one:

1. Cajones to take Iraq war dissent to AC radio - Check
2. Guitar Master - Check
3. Whisper Pussy Vocals - Ugh
4. First two albums containing cringe-worthy Neanderthal Tries To Woo Women lyrics - Ugh Ugh
5. I have to hear him day in and day out at my job - Ugh
6. Wants to extricate himself from light pop stardom - Check

Tally : Ugh Ugh Ugh Ugh - Check Check Check = Ugh

Skip the first two songs ("Waiting On The World To Change" and "I Don't Trust Myself") and "Vultures" and the album is incredibly solid. I don't even consider the first two albums - why should I let those two influence how I feel about this one? To me, he began his career with Try!.

Oh, you're absolutely right objectively, but since I work in soft rock radio, the previous hits won't go away. Like 10 songs worth of not-going away.

Quit.

That's why you all have to stop listening to radio. I only know one Mayer song prior to this album and that's the super-creepy "Your Body Is A Wonderland," because that piece of shit was everywhere. Ignoring radio and videos leaves nearly everything an open book to me.

Is this list upside down? Is #18 your favorite?

Definitely the best top 18 list I've seen.

Good to see PopTodd throwing out some hate for a change.

Hey thanks.

By the way, even though I don't agree with PT AT ALL, you're right, nice change of pace.

To clarify, that was a joke about how it's the only top 18 I've seen, but there are some solid choices on there. I will not even have 18 albums, so my list is bound to be the best top-something list you've ever seen.

Dammit! I knew that in the back of head. Just didn't want to admit it. Oh well. Thanks anyway.
