Inspired by the Oscars thread. How does Eastwood get so much respect? If they don't nominate him, they're afraid he'll kill 'em?

I mean, I think I could write a passable review of this movie just from knowing whose involved and a vague plot.

Eastwood as curmudgeonly, yet secret-gilded-hearted trainer, who "Ain't coachin' no damn womans," Swank as orphan or similarly desperate path latching on to his father figure, Freeman as the secret conscience of Eastwood (extra points for being black) Slow, nay, GLACIAL pace, jazz soundtrack. She either wins or loses the big fight at the end, but it doesn't matter because her and Eastwood respect, maybe even love each other, and Freeman provides the spiritual wisdom.

Feel free to tell me why I am wrongheaded.

They end up getting married at the end. I saw that coming a mile away.

Yeah, I saw Chris Matthews talking about it on Leno, and apparently there is more to it than I though. Going to see it Sunday/

There really is a lot more to this movie than what has been said here but I don't want to spoil it for everyone. Just go see it. It's very good.

I can't believe I've made it this far without knowing what the big plot twist is. I don't even know if I'll see it, but I'm trying to not find out.

The Chicago Reader did a few page story over what the twist in the movie is and gave you the option to keep reading if you didn't care knowing what it was. I kept reading. Even though I haven't seen it yet.

But all I know is that finding out made me want to see this movie even more then I did before.

the plot twist is admirable i guess.

but the movie goes from being one kind of cliche to being another.

not a great movie. not very enjoyable to watch, and nobody will want to watch it a second time. in a couple years, it'll be forgotten.

unforgiven will still be remembered as his best movie.

Play Misty For Me is his best movie. Unforgiven is second. The Beguiled is good, too. And Escape From Alcatraz, The Geiger Sanction, The Dead Pool, Pale Rider and The Gauntlet.

That's how I feel about Mystic River. I probably won't see this movie.

My fave Eastwood pictures(whether directing or acting in) would be something like this:

All the spaghetti westerns
The Beguiled
Play Misty For Me
Dirty Harry
The Outlaw Josey Wales
Unforgiven
In The Line of Fire

Have not seen:Bird, Bridges of Madison County, Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil, Million Dollar Baby
