i think i've seen the entirety of the Muzik Mafia show. like every episode.

i even recognized Gretchen Wilson at some other point whilst watching said station. i was like "hey, that's that girl from the MM show."

I will admit to watching a few of their countdowns only because they feature older artists who were pretty damn great.

I watch VH1 country quite a bit because it's the only channel on my cable that plays videos 24 hours a day. I like to be able to flip to a video during commercials and what not.

I used to have MTV Hits which was basically just as bad but played Pop videos instead of country, my cable provider took that away though.

I watch some Crossroads, as well. Hank and Kid Rock....that's just my game

I happened to catch a half hour of Dolly Parton videos there and was blown away. Aside from the bullshit that hit the radio in the '80s and the time I saw her do "Jolene" at the Grand Ol' Opry when I was a kid, I knew very little about her music. Apparently she has gone back to her Bluegrass roots and plays the majority of the instruments on her albums. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Confirm.

I saw her and her band on one of the late night shows a couple of years ago when that first "new" bluegrass album came out tear through the most incredible version of collective soul's "shine". Goddamn, it smoked. The album version wasn't as good.

It's not like I have to know, but I'd be curious as to how long CMT has been around anyway?

Hey Chris!

Well, on the RCN package, CMT is at channel 79, VH1 at 80, so it's often the last channel I'll see before checking to see what is on VH1, which I then proceed to rarely watch. Anyhow, I would often stop to look and see what the "commercial country" world has to offer, if/how notions of patriotism were depicted/etc, what kind of music passes for popular country these days, what the hell Kid Rock is doing on there, etc.

The thing is, for pure entertainment/spectacle, it's a lot more rewarding (for me) to watch people having fun doing a rock show, interacting with the crowd, etc. in a way that is less about the bling and "reality tv" idiosyncracies of what passes for standard fare on competing music-themed stations (or the "my heart is dying because you breathe in my soul" nu-emo shit that currently stands in for "live rock artists" on MTV). I doubt I will be buying or downloading any Big & Rich records tomorrow, but it's kinda neat to see what goes on in another part of the musical landscape. Oddly refreshing, in fact!

I've been to a country and western bar where they have bikini bull riding on Thursday nights, and while they throw in hip hop and rap, I didn't mind the country they played.

I've actually been tempted to "go country" just for the hot chicks.

Cases in point:

Faith Hill
Shania Twain
Martina McBride
Allison Moorer
Lorrie Morgan

...do I make my point?
