I think I'm a part of a silent majority that intentionally does not listen to Obner bands to avoid the slippery slope of having to listen to too many bands that I really don't have the time for when there are so many "real" releases ever year.
I think there is alot of hype around those two bands because they have a core of support plus alot of friends on the board but in actually I don't think that Obner really listened to either records. Hence why they're not on many year end lists.
wow, since i'd like to be in a real band with a real release some day, i'll make sure that i never ever talk about what i'm doing, ever, that way you can find out about it through dalen or timis or pitchfork, or however it is that obners find out about "real" releases.
yikes.
so because a musician happens to be someone you know, you can't listen their music because you know them?
That's not what I meant but if you want to take it that way, fine. There's a reason why I put quotations marks but whatever. I'm not saying that your band sucks, but I'm saying I can't check out every Obner band because 95% of Obner has a band of some sort. Sorry but that doesn't preclude me from paying attention to how your band is doing, Phil. And if you paid attention more the only band I've ever checked out on Obner was a band you're in.

I had a feeling that wasn't what you meant, but i'm wondering if people here actively ignore bands because members post here. If that's the case, i'd rather make my music, not tell people here about it, and have them "discover" it on their own (however that may happen). I want to make music people dig, but i don't want to guilt them into liking it, or have them ignore it because they know me on some level.
And how much work is it to ask obner for a link to a favorite tune so you don't have to listen to the album? cause i'm sure that dalen or todd or matt or timmyjoe or I would give you a PAP tune to check out. That album is really good.
I'd rather have honest opinions from people here than some meaningless review in pitchfuck, because i like alot of the albums that people here have turned me on to. Unfortunately, most of you like 25 horrendous albums for every one that I do like. But that one... itsa always a good one.
With The Changes (no obners in that band), or the Pilots, or the Bon Savants... you've got bands in major metropolitan scenes who are making a mark and making it for a reason. It's not easy to get spots at Schubas, let alone a weekend spot. The talent that goes through there is sick, and they can hold their own.
Anyhow, now i'm rambling, but i really wonder if talking about your musical endeavors here does you more harm than good as far as the general populace goes.
