This time two years ago, Arcade Fire made a last minute entry with Funeral and was sweeping the top x lists in a frenzy of accolades. Despite a few naysayers and flimshawers, it was recognized by many (if not most) to be the best album of the year.

Now that some time has passed, how well has this album held up, in your opinion? Although I was big into it at the time, it has had very little staying power for me. I only remember playing it once this year, and when I did I skipped through to my favorite tracks.

Follow-up question: what albums on your list this year do you think will have staying power, and what albums do you think won't?

I still count Funeral in my top five of the 2000's. It gets played about once a month.

not very well. i was never that keen on it in the first place, and repeated listens have done nothing to endear it to me. band of horses newest is already three quarters of the way to the same fate.

Arcade Fire has less staying power than I thought it would at the time, but I still enjoy it thoroughly when I happen to toss it on.

I agree that TVOTR will have staying power. Those songs just keep getting better, and it really doesn't sound like anything else right now.

this album has gotten better with age, though i don't feel the need to listen to it constantly. when i do throw it on and give it a spin where i can pay attention and listen to it, i'm even more blown away now than i was when i first got a hold of this. i don't know where wynn butler (that's his name, right?) appeared from so suddenly, but he's really, really fucking good.
a good friend of mine (and total music junky) has been telling me for some time that the arcade fire are currently the only band that matter. though i resisted that argument for some time, i think i'm with him now. they've got that rare talent that cuts across genres (creating a new one perhaps), and cuts across generations. my mom loves this record, and i bet there's a lot more folks who can say the same thing about their parents, or their younger brother. i think we've only heard the beginning of what will be a long and interesting story for this band.

i haven't listened to this album in a long while. the spring after it came out i listened to it nearly every day after i came home from work for at least a solid month but i'm hardly ever in the mood for it anymore. maybe i'll give it a spin tonight or tomorrow and see how it strikes me.

Amazing album, love how the album changes over the songs (not the constant same song 10-12 times over like most other crap out there).

Also, when I listen to it, I listen to all of it, no cherry picking of songs. This is one of the few albums that I do that with

It's a fabulous album, I can't wait for the new one to come out. I still listen to a ton of stuff from Funeral on a regular basis.

At least in my opinion: An unfinished, shallow work. Then, and now, it sounds great.... for the first third of every song. But has no guts nor ability to push, and my mind has wandered and can't stay listening to the end...

They are very talented, I like his voice (especially when it closes in on Bowie), I will look forward to their next... but although this was in my top 10 for that year... it wouldn't crack my top 50 for the century. Fades fast...

I heard "Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" (also "Paranoid Android") used as bumpers on Anderson Cooper 360 last night. Kinda weird.

I still like this album.

They're playing a church in Washington Square Park in NYC in mid February. Get your tix on Jan.5

There's a good chance I'll be making it up for one of the shows.

Yeah, I just saw this---shows from February 13-17th. I'll be in town from the 7th to the 12th---damn. I'm seriously considering extending my stay by two days to get to this show.

Just do it. You know we have to attend at least one concert a year together.

That's true---Notwist in '04, Arcade Fire in '05, Pfork festival this year. OK, what the hell---I'll see what I can do.

Appreciated it more post-'04 after some more spins. Neighbourhood #3 is great for blowing the windows out of your house.
