I watched him on both Good Morning America & the Today Show this morning. He actually did quite well in my opinion.

I think he's a better chance for the democrats than hillary or barack.

Now all he has to do is bill himself as John Ritter Jr., he'd get more votes.

I like the guy a lot, especially the work he's done since getting beat in '04.

This will definitely raise the eyebrows around the country of the people pondering running.

He's got presidential campaign experience and he can raise a shitload of money.

I'm sure there are some who would spooge over an Edwards/Obama ticket.

I don't think it's a realistic ticket. I like the idea, but i want the dems to win.

He got my primary vote in '04, and I still like him for whatever that's worth (dude said 'bull semen' on the Daily Show. Recognize!). Crack has a good horror story about his grandfather getting piss-poor service from Edwards as a Senator, and the truth is probably in-between our two extremes.

Give me Edwards/Clark, baby.

He might, but he'd be better off letting a Dem president in for 4-8 years.

Yep. Whoever the R candidate is he'll have an uphill climb. I'd say anyone that has publicly distanced himself from Bush at this point is debating on running.

One things for sure, the Democratic primary race is going to be entertaining.

Where is this coming from?

I'd say it can't hurt that he's from down here. He might get a few votes from Moderates down here in Jesusland versus not getting any because "they ain't votin for no damn Yankee".

i also think this.......

the dems got the power last nov due to the republicans fucking up - not b/c the people liked their agenda (sure some did, but...).....

this 08 election will be based on good clear ideas (from either party) and whether or not the dems do some good between now and then

I think this is his biggest selling point.

He's obviously also trying to make roads into Louisiana, Mississippi, & Bama with announcing from New Orleans, which is probably a good idea and they defintely can be had (at least LA & MS) in light of Katrina response by the Bush Administration and the high number of Democrats in both states.

We won't win an election for anybody but breaking up the Solid South can't hurt.

I thought he was a totally ineffective vice presidential candidate in 2004. He got hosed in the debate with Cheney and on the stump seemed canned and weak (as opposed to his primary campaigns where he came across as strong, intelliget, authentic, and passionate about economic justice).

His positions on issues are solid... but I think he may crash and burn in the Iowa/NH deates.

This is Rovian mindfuck propaganda... Clinton won twice big, Gore won the public vote, Kerry (one of the least appealing candidates in recent history) lost to a sitting president in wartime by 3%... the difference between the "right" and the "left" is thin. One can say with at least as much authority that the reps only win when dems fuck up the campaigns.

I think candiates like Webb, Casey, Tester won as much because they ran on their own positions as against the republican fuck-ups.

you bring good points for sure.....but ALOT of people (sheep) voted against the party in office.....

bush was disliked and still beat kerry...this hatred got worse after the election and people essentially VOTED against bush and his party last nov. i dont think this idea is far fetched at all...

I think it was more about individual agendas and platforms vs. a national "Contract With America"-esque collective front. Which seemed like a losing proposition heading into the election, following 6 years of pretty much lock-step solidarity and groupthink by the GOP. That strategy trampled over most everything until the wagon started buckling under the weight of misdeeds by DeLay, Hastert, Foley, et al, the hopeless war in Iraq and a president who people are finally realizing JUST DOESN'T GET IT.

The Dem victories in November were due to a slate of good candidates who campaigned to their individual constituencies and made cases for why they were better. There was still too much, "At least I'm not that guy - vote for me" going on for my liking, but it worked. If they want to maintain this momentum, though, the Dems have got to formulate a collective platform and direction, or at least lay out goals for early in the next Congress. For once, I'm hopeful they can.

No he didn't. Clinton never even pulled half the vote. 43% in 1992 and 49% in 1996. And that's without even checking out the voter turnout.

Disclosure: I voted for Clinton in 1996. I was 16 in 1992, but most likely would have.

1992 - he defeated a "competent" sitting president who had jst "won" a war.

1996 - he beat Dole by NINE PERCENTAGE POINTS... dude, that's a big win under any definition

Maybe more electable than the other leaders, Hilary and Obama, but I tend to agree with Harry that Edwards was pretty disappointing in the debates and such last time around.

Democrats still need to come up with something better...although it's not like the Republicans have some miracle candidate waiting in the wings, either.

I'd love to see Obama get it, but I don't share the optomism of those thinking we would elect a black guy president, or a woman for that matter.

I think most of the country underestimates how much we could gain in the view of the larger world by having a president of color. We like to talk about being an open and diverse country, but our top leader is always some old white guy. Electing something else would go far to show us as a country that wants to walk the walk not just talk the talk.

Sadly, I don't see us as being that kind of country.

He's fairly meh
He was never that notable as a Senator, which might actually help him out a bit, but he was still a Senator which isn't a good thing in the Presidential race.
He's from the South, which is a bonus, but I don't think it helps him a whole lot.
Edwards, Gore and Kerry have the loser stink still on them and I don't think they are really attractive candidates in the toss-up states.
He's done some good things since leaving politics, but so has Jimmy Carter, maybe he should follow Carter's lead and stay away from politics.
