I realise there's been a ton of headphones threads. I've scanned through them and read a bunch of recs for the Sennheiser PX's and Sony MDRV's but a web search is listing both around the $80 mark.

Considering I only use my headphones to listen to music on my discman on the bus and when I'm walking around, I don't know if I can really justify spending $80 on a pair. Should my headphones really cost about as much as the device I'm playing the music on?

The pair I use and have had for years cost me maybe $20 at Wal-Mart. If I can't get any good recs that are cheap, I'll probably just buy them again. They play music for me to hear, fit comfortably and look alright. That's pretty much all I'm looking for.

$40

They're worth every penny.

I've sworn by the KSC-75s ever since the KSC-35s I had broke. For <$20 they can't be beat.

I bought of a pair of these and they sound great:

I still prefer Sennheiser CX-300s, though. Way more comfortable IMHO.

People tried to help you just two weeks ago.

Either learn to save a little extra scratch or just keep buying the same shitty $20 pair several times a year. It's not that complicated.

It's amazing how much a difference an extra $20 makes. After I got the PX-100s a while ago and compared them to my cheap Sony's, it was as if I was using technology from the 50s all these years.

I can afford $80 headphones, I just don't know if I should bother. My $20 pair lasted me about five years.

The only problem with the PX-100s is that they're "open," so you'll get a lot of outside noise on the bus. If this isn't a problem, though, I've heard they're great headphones and worth every penny.

I use mine mainly in the gym and have the PX-200s. They're a fine pair of headphones and block outside noise pretty well. Not as good as the PX-100s, but if you're fighting with bus noise, the PX-100s may not be a great choice.
