I saw Mogwai and was surprised at how loud it wasn't. However, Growing, who opened for them was quite loud.

Black Dice opening for GYBE! was loud in 2003.

Lightning Bolt in fall 2003 was also loud.

MMJ in a small club in June 2005 was pretty loud, though not in the same way as the above bands.

Unlikely enough, after 30 years of concert going, the loudest for me was a recent Frank Black gig. It was a 2 hour onslaught of noise, with that same constant brain-piercing SKREEEEEEEEEEEEE that Diggity Dawg mentioned. I couldn't make out most of the songs - and at that volume he may as well have invited tone-deaf strangers up on the stage to play the instruments. Totally ruined the concert for me.

Boris (the one show I was actually glad I brought earplugs)

The Grey Daturas were pretty loud last week.

Same for me. I was able to enjoy the show, but I made sure to always bring earplugs after that night.

Lightning Bolt 2005 in Nashville (probably the same show discostu mentioned) and Sleater-Kinney in 2003 in New York. Besides the fact that they were so fcuking loud, the lack of bass made the whole thing so high-register that it destroyed the ear drums in a very strange way. My ears couldn't really process the music.

Dude. I went to the airport and stood next to a jet engine.

It was so fucking punk.

9 times out of 10 when I go climbing I get 'attacked' by a fighter jet. They train flying through the mountains.

Last summer I was climbing up a mountain and I heard a noise like the world was about to end. Then I saw it seemingly coming straight towards me. It passed about 80 ft below (weird looking at a flying jet from above) and maybe 40ft off the slope of the mountain.

The noise they make as they scream towards and past you is absolutely terrifying, especially when come in close like that. You have to lie down for 5 minutes afterwards to compose yourself and stop shaking.

Mogwai, as loud as they are, don't really compare.
