MMJ were spectacularly in a party mood at the Fillmore last night. A couple of times, although not a jam-band in any sense, their extended playing increased in intensity where they got to that "transcendent rock and roll" moment where there was no division between the band, the music and the crowd. Kinda like what I've experienced with the stones in 1970, the Clash in 1979, U2 in 1984, the 'Mats in 1986, the Cure in 1987... and what the Dead wanted so much from 1968-1994.

We were near the stage with a group of "redneck" kids who had come out to Sf from Georgia for the occasion. They were incredibly drunk, affectionate to each other, and happy. You were supposed to dress up, and one kid came as a "redneck", with an orange hunting vest and faux tattoos on each shoulder; "pain don't hurt", "I hunt for white tail all year long." I liked it when he licked his buddy's beard. But damn you southerners smoke tobacco. New respect for the South.

James was especially cute during the George Michael cover. I also liked Highway to Hell.

Way to remember the whole set list. Yet another band I have yet to see live. Sounds like a blast.

Those were Southern frat boys and they were on Ecstacy.

Sounds like a great show and glad to know that MMJ didn't disappoint.

And sorority girls... who were wearing fake moustaches in keeping with the buckaroo theme. But I am a connoisseur of alteration, and I don't think it was E. Mostly mixed drinks (cocktails!), weed, beer champagne, and lots of tobacco.
