I just picked these up thanks to a couple gift cards. I haven't been much of a Foo fan since '97, but I really enjoy this thing. When Grohl comes out at the beginning of the encore and recounts the origins of him joining Nirvana, it was a great moment to watch, because Grohl really humanizes Cobain, makes fun of him a little bit even, and totally goofs on Courtney Love (though not by name). He talks about how he didn't even know those guys, and yet was living with them in squalor while they were making Nevermind. He explained how that was the first time he started writing songs on acoustic guitar, and then he proceeds to perform the song Friend of a Friend, which is obviously about the Melvin's guy who told him Nirvana was looking for a drummer. The closing version of a re-worked Everlong is pretty amazing, too. The Tweedy DVD is really good, but the documentary of the making of YHF was so great this never had a chance to come close. I'm not sure what to think of Tweedy's crowd interaction. It's simultaneously embarrasing, entertaining, cringe-worthy at times, and occasionally hilarious, but never anything less than compelling. Anyone seen these? Thoughts?

Did the Foos DVD have the Hyde Park concert as well? It's being sold as a 2-in-1 release in England.

Must be a UK only thing. No Hyde Park double disc version that I've seen...

I got the Foo's unplugged disc (Skin and Bones), and I think it's pretty bad. Their songs don't translate well to that format- it shows how weak their songwriting is, imho.

Wow, I'm the exact opposite. Marigold, New Year, and Big Me are far superior to their studio counterparts in my opinion. At least they didn't get pelted with Mentos chewables... Weak songwriting? OK, Grohl is the GenX Tom Petty when it comes to writing catchy tunes... To each his own I guess

I disagree as well with ya Finchy. I think if anything, Grohl's songwriting abilities really shine when it comes to playing acoustic. He's extremely talented at what he does.

i didn't really dig on the tweedy dvd as much as i thought i would. the banter they chose didn't really leave me satisfied; i was really more on the embarassed/cringe-worthy side of things and as far as content goes it's him playing acoustic solo shows so they don't really do a lot with the camera as there's not really a lot to show. i'm glad i have it but i don't know if i'll ever watch it again.
