My younger brother may be America's biggest fan (don't ask) and he sent me a link to a promotional video for their new album. Sounds interesting in that it's produced by Adam Schlesinger and James Iha with guests like Nada Surf, Ryan Adams, and Ben Kweller. Sounds scary in that the first song is called "Chasing the Rainbow."

"Sister Golden Hair" is a freaking excellent song.

Beyond the fact that they were Neil Young-lite humping Alan Parsons, they had some likeable tunes.

An awful band. No redeeming qualities whatsoever.

"chase the rainbow" sounds like one of the depraved sexual acts in the urban dictionary.

I don't mind a few of their songs.

I'll definitely check out the new album if those folks are involved.

How's this for a double bill I saw in A.C. years ago -- America and Three Dog Night. Had drinks afterward with the two frontmen from America...they seemed like good guys.

We need to discuss how Bread's "Mother Freedom" rawks.
Also, a poll on who got laid to "I'd Love You To Want Me"

One of the two America guys sang on the last two Low albums.

"Sister Golden Hair" is so good I can almost excuse them for putting their version of "Muskrat Love" on their Greatest Hits.

What was that song a few years ago that was based around a loop of the opening acoustic guitar riff for "Ventura Highway"? I think it was on some old CMJ comp--or am I thinking of that rap song based around a loop from Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown"?

Hard to believe, but David Gates wrote and/or produced a handful of great girl group records in the mid '60s, including the Murmaids' "Popsicles and Icicles" and the ridiculously exuberant "My One and Only Jimmy Boy" by the Girlfriends. Ann-Margaret and Shelley Fabares, too.

Janet Jackson's "Someone To Call My Lover" is built around the "Ventura Highway" open.

Remember "You Can Do Magic", their '80s hit?

I'm sorry to remind you.
