Amid all the doom and gloom, my candidate won re-election by a 60-40 margin in a 60-40 Republican county.

Democrats CAN win, it is really all about the message. I have said time and again, that when your message is YES, BUT (i.e. Iraq was the right thing, BUT; I am for lower taxes, BUT) you lose credibility, and no one really listens to the BUT.

PS -- I won $100 from a bet 1.5 years ago that Bush would win. Not because I wanted him to, but because 9/11 inoculated him from the economy. Too bad no one in this party listens to me.

Anyway, I'm not gloating, I'm just saying that there are glimmers of hope out there.

I work for the District Attorney in Mobile, AL.. Not a race with national implications, but it means that we are in the driver's seat for a statewide race in 2006, and beyond.

outside of Obama winning, which was won before the polls were even open, I see no glimmer of hope from this year's election.

I was going to refrain from this reply, because you need a little time to get over something like this, but you are missing the forest for the trees. Dems won/kept governorships in WA State, WV, and NC, overtook the both the state house and senate in Colorado (which will be effective in fighting many of the enviro type things these folks will do.

You are lie baseball fans who want to signa big free agent, instead of building a farm system that will provied the organization much talent over a long period of time.

Take some time to mourn, but have faith that now that they've won, they gotta govern...and there's nowhere to go but UP.

But, we are all right about Obama:

Interviewed on ABC's "Good Morning America," Obama said that over the last several years, "Republicans have been successful in framing themselves as the defender of American traditions, religious traditions, family traditions. And I think that they have successfully painted the Democrats all too often as contrary to those values."

In future elections, he said, Democrats should "make sure that we don't cede the field in those conversations, because people generally understand that government can't solve all their problems." :D

And, to speak of Colorado, Pete Coors will not be in the U.S. Senate.

Serves him right... All that shitty beer.

And yet the areas affected by te attacks voted against him.

Makes me wonder if an ad stating "New York and Washington DC endorse Kerry" would have had any positive results.

Why on earth would you assume NYC and DC are the only areas affected by the attacks?

In a literal, or rather, geographic sense they were, but since the victims were from all over the country and from a number of nations, of course the effect was widespread, as was the ensuing fear.

A literal and extremely narrow view, yes. I've heard this shitty argument before, and again I think, "but those areas ALWAYS vote Democrat."

To the tune of 90% in DC's case.

90% of the city that houses the President hates him. That's gotta be fun.

I meant to say they were the ones attacked and most directly affected.

Despite my intent to not word it the way I did, I still managed to. D'oh.

These are the same people who elected Marion Barry after he was caught smoking crack and won back his old Ward 8 council seat last night.

Just saw on Drudge that Ashcroft is going to resign within the next few days.

Gar- Gregoire (D) hasn't won here in WA yet. Rossi (R) is up by by a few hundred votes, but the ones to count are from the Seattle area so she's probably fine. But she certainly hasn't won yet.

I just saw that...that'd be a shame. Rs haven't gotten that one in a while.

This would make my week.

I think Powell should stay in the white house though just to keep a moderate in there. Who knows what neocon Bush would replace him with. Maybe it was Powell all along who has secretly saved us from even more chaos and destruction.

Also, as long as Richard Perle does not replace Donald Rumsfeld as Secretary of Defense, humanity will survive until at least 2008. As bad as some of the people in Bush's cabinet are, there are even scarier people working in the shadows.
