I don't want to harsh on anyone who has started a music related blog but it's my explaination as to why Obner seems to have dipped in recent times.

Wow, D... If you were to feckin' do a search on MiceElf as author, you'd see a myriad of attempts to start a music-related thread (latest being about the never-aired Jon Brion t.v. pilot). You would then see that my threads mean feck all to anyone because they sink quicker than basically any other thread around.

In the last year I brought bands and mp3s forward to the board. I have a few NMR posts, but I geniunely try sticking to talking about music. Because there are so few music-related posts, I don't get to contribute a whole hell of a lot. [btw, just the other day, I went to the charts and added a bunch of missing albums -- both new and old -- as I felt I wanted to contribute something to the board].

If I were to blame the demise of Obner on anything, I'd say it was because of chat. Maybe my problem on the board is that I don't show my tits and ass or flirt endlessly (or have a tiny bit of interest in American football or most anything having do with competitive sports -- I'd rather play sports than sit down and watch 'em and I'd rather play them then sit around talk about 'em).

There's no YouTube option. Seriously, it feels like every time I look at the main page, half are YouTube and the other half are sports.

Agreed on the suggestion that the fifty million blogs might be drawing power away from the board. People might be more prone to post their thoughts, ramblings on there than on here. Why? Don't know. Maybe because having an official blog makes them seem cool and important. Or maybe they're just tired of being given shit and made fun of by the assholes on here.

Or maybe some of us are music geeks to the nth degree and therefore having a "blog" is a way that [we] can show excitment for an artist or whatever. Some of us, too, may have a life outside of Obner and therefore sharing stuff on a "blog" is a way to let their friends, family and other artists know what they are digging, etc. [not to mention, having a "blog" can get sometimes get you into shows free or receive free c.d.s, etc.]

PS: I've been tempted to post on Obner the same thing I've posted on my "blog" but figure my thread would just sink like always, so why the feck bother anymore. Having said that, there are some great, knowledgable folks on Obner that make me stay -- I like learning about new and old music on here and, incidentally, I enjoy looking at people's "blogs"
PSS: I'm well over the age of needing to feel hip or important
