Well, my entire trip to Chicago and NYC has been switched. I'll be in Decatur, IL, next Thursday and Friday (January 11th-12th), flying in and out of St Louis.

Are there any Obner types in either city?

Awesome -- my coworker and I are thinking about hanging a bit in St Louis before making the 2+ drive to Decatur. Have any suggestions? Wanna meet up? Wanna throw things at us?

Well, I'm a STL transplant so nobody might be able to let you in on the best little hotspots in town. I at least can suggest going down to "the Loop," they've got a lotta cool little shops and restaurants down there. Blueberry Hill is my favorite.

As far as meeting up, put me down for a maybe depending on how our schedules match up on those days. :)

When exactly you gonna be around? Day, evening?

I can probably grab a drink with ya and/or suggest some places to go, depending on the timing.

And, the Blueberry Hill suggestion is good, it's right near one of the better record stores in town, Vintage Vinyl, and you can check out the St. Lous Walk of Fame, featuring Chuck Berry, Scott Joplin, Vincent Price and others.

If you're around for an evening, let me know what kinda night life you're into and I can make some suggestions.

I actually lived in Decatur for a while...nothing much there, but I would suggest stopping by the Lincoln Lounge for a Gyro.

I've got a couple buddies who work at Blueberry Hill, both musicians. It's not a bad place to tie one on, and I spent a good amount of time at Vintage Vinyl this summer when I was doing counseling at that rock camp.

There was this one really dive-y bar we got stupid at that was right near there, i think off of skinker, near a movie theater maybe? I can't remember, i was trashed.

That was probably the High Point, right near the giant Amoco sign. They just closed down a few months back, which was a shame since they had some decent bands play there, even though it was a shitty venue, long, narrow, crowded, tiny, etc...

Yeah, it was really disappointing when the Hi-Pointe closed. There were so few venues here already.

Yeah...it's been fucked up around here venue wise this past year or so. I was most disappointed to see Fredrick's close and Mississippi Nights is supposed to be closing soon as well, although they are supposed to be reopening in Midtown once they get a space fixed up. It's a shame since over the last 10-15 years or so, there was pretty steady growth of music venues and such around here. It's not looking so good for that to continue these days.
