I'm sure anything remastered in 5.1 would be a good contender but anything specific? I bought new headphones and I want to see if I can discern a noticeable difference in sound and quality.

Alan Parsons' Try Anything Once has incredible sound quality (and a few actually really good songs mixed in with some absolute crap.) I've also used Pink Floyd's Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell because the sonics on those are pretty stunning. Most of all, use something that you're intimately familiar with - it doesn't always have to be something perfectly recorded, just something that you're so familiar with that you will pick up on sound quality differences immediately.

I know it's not albums, but something that also may help your testing (if you're testing from PC or a digital portable) are reference samples like these.

Here's my list, maybe you're familiar with something on it.

Beach Boys - Pet Sounds (if you've never listened on phones... woops)
Beatles - Sgt. Peppers
Queen - Queen II
Jellyfish - Spilt Milk
Fiona Apple - When The Pawn

I ended up shelling out the $100 for the Sennheiser PX-100's.

I'll test them out on the bus ride to work in the morning. Probably just go with one of my favorites, like suggested, and see if I can tell any difference between the $20 and $80 pairs.
