I hadn't even heard that they were interviewing him.

Signing bonus apparently included: A pimp cup, $30,000 in Kruggerands and several small children from Mr. Blank's personal "collection"

although he'll just run the option for 8 games, look like a genius, and then run Schaubb for 3 games into 8-8 status.

I agree. I honestly don't have a problem with the hire; I just thought they would take a lot longer, but whatever, get your man.

it's an interesting team though if you were going to try and cast your imaginary "dream" coach for that position. I don't know what you really look for, although i'd probably start with someone who i thought could get that D back into class of the league shape. although, we tried that with marvin lewis, and he's almost gotten me into FT style knee-jerk response now.

Yeah, Mr. Blank was apparently enamored with Mike Singletary though they decided they didnt wanna go the assistant route again. I wonder if maybe they'll go after Singletary to be an Enforcer/D-Coordinator.

I'll go on record saying this is a terrible hire. I give him 2 years. Add another college coach to the NFL graveyard.

Petrino had the rare opportunity to build up a program and become a legend to the Louisville faithful and really establish a program. He was well on his way...
And he left that to go to the Falcons?
Bad move by the Falcons given the success rate of good college coaches making the jump to the NFL, and an absolutely horrible move by Petrino throwing away what could have been.

i'll also add that Bobby Petrino has less of a soul than Nick Saban.

I almost guarantee this will cause Michael Vick to become the next Kordell Stewart. He won't fit in the system, end up getting traded to some team that is in the process of a three to four year rebuilding cycle and completely disappear.

I don't like to consider myself a money grubbing whore, but I can't say with any real amount of certainty that if someone offered me twice as much money as I make now (plus some perks) to quit my freelance gigs to work for them full-time that I'd be able to turn them down.

Remember: he almost left after last year to coach the Raiders, & was under consideration in Oakland, again.

Also, confidential to Promethium: Michael Vick will be Kordell Stewart, all the way down to the AIDS. Just, MV will get it from a female, instead of a dude.

I'm not going that far but I'm skeptical.

I figured the Falcons would go with a fire breathing disciplinarian after Jim "Smelling Salts" Mora.

I love the system that he brings with him. It's worked good to great everywhere he's been. He's also been known to be a good developer of QB's. That had to be a deciding factor for King Arthur.

If Vick can't get it done with him he can't get it done with anyone.

I'm not sure how you can be skeptical (or maybe I tend to be a glass is half full kinda guy), but who was a better candidate? Its not like the prospects list was littered with a bunch Walsh's or Bellichick's.

No doubt. But would you secretly campaign for your friends job at the expense of him being fired?

This can't happen. Samurai is under contract with the 49ers, and he is also their assistant head coach. According to NFL rules, he cannot interview for a lesser position (which is what DC would be) without permission from his team. And I don't see the Niners giving him permission.

I believe you are referring to the L'Affair Lowder and the Private Jet?

No one is innocent in that game.

Mike Martz. If anybody can figure out to use Vick effectively, it's him.

That "Assistant Head Coach" title is such a bunch of nonsense because in reality he is the Linebackers Coach, not even the Defensive Coordinator.

Throw a bone to a Chicago guy and see what I get, TOK?

Great offensive coordinator, TERRIBLE head coach.

AD's, Boosters, and Deans are collectively the biggest collection of degenerates on the planet.

I'm right there with you on the title being complete B.S. I was hoping he could replace Ron Rivera as our DC until I heard about that rule.

I like the move. This came out of nowhere. Of the candidates that were being thrown about I was less than enthused about all of them.

I'm just in the camp of "for every Jimmy Johnson there are 10 Steve Spurriers".

I also am not convinced that Mike Vick can get the job done with anyone. I'm even more skeptical of Vick after seeing Garcia and ESPECIALLY Tom Brady get it done with a no name group of trash heap receivers.

Petrino's fate will inevitably be tied to how Vick plays.
