While I was home over break I had a look at my wall of CDs and picked out a couple that I hadn't listened to in a long time. One of the more surprising ones was Sublime's "40 Oz. To Freedom." There was a time when it was my number one favorite album, bar-none, no questions asked. It has aged pretty badly and I'm disappointed that I don't derive the great pleasure from it that I once did. Sure, there's something comforting about knowing all the words and changes to an album but it just didn't feel the same as it did in say, 7th grade.

Anybody have similar experiences with an old favorite?

Drivin'n'Cryin' - Fly Me Courageous

Man, I loved that song and album, but going back and listening to it again, the lyrics are sooo bad and stupid, that it completely kills it for me.

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet

As I recall, this wasn't just an album with one hit and bunch of filler, it was pretty solid all the way through. I have no idea where that cassette is today and have no intentions of looking for it.

Faith No More still holds up beautifully.

Green Day - Dookie
Stone Temple Pilots - Purple

If a song from one of these albums comes on the radio, I won't turn it. But I don't ever see myself listening to them straight through ever again.

The first five REM albums. Once my all time favorites, now I can't think of putting them on. Zeitgeist road-kill.

yeah, with the exception of Paul's Boutique, I gotta say that a lot of the Beastie Boys has not aged very well with me

I'll agree with this. I have their whole catalogue. Used to listen to it all the time but they sound really dated and cheesy now, even To the 5 Bouroughs.

ah, drivin' n cryin'. i remember you. while the first album, scarred but smarter and the whisper tames the lion are still is fun to spin on occasion for the sake of nostalgia there are precious few good songs scattered throughout the rest of their catalog.

i used to listen to macdougal blues all the time, too

I saw Drivin' n Cryin' open for the Who once. Probably 1998 or so.

I defy you to say that "Straight to Hell" is terrible.

Also, you paint huffers are off on the Beasties. First 4 albums are still untouchable. I don't listen to any of them with the frequency of say 1994-1997, but they are still good rekkids, and fun, too. Remember fun?

Yeah, when I was packing up the house I loaded up the the first 5 records and with the exception of the last one, I was still diggin' them. The bigger surprise was how much I liked Ill Communication which I really never enjoyed all that much back in the 90s.

That album was a staple of my senior year in high school.

I was looking through my cds yesterday as I stacked them up...there are probably many of them I don't have the desire to listen to, but there aren't many that I straight don't like anymore.

I'm 29, graduated from HS in 1995.

The first 2 Beastie records are untouchable. Check Your Head and Ill Communication have a bunch of good songs but they're not anywhere near complete as the first 2. After that, who cares?

Same here. I thought you were in your mid- to late-30s for some reason.

Paul's Boutique may still hold the record for my most-listened-to-album ever. Prolly tied with crooked rain, crooked rain. I haven't listened to Paul's Boutique in years...but I stand by the notion that it is untouchable. I defy you to touch it.

Just about anything "classic rock"
In particular... Santana - Abraxas

I think that I learned how to play guitar, for the most part, by playing along with that record over and over again. Now, I can barely stand to hear a note of it.

Also, anything by Eric Clapton or Cream.
