Not that these aren't great songs, but who the hell needs yet another version of "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" or "Yesterday"?

I mean, come on!
Any other ones that you can think of?
Songs that are simply over-covered?

I was amazed that Rascall Flatts covered Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane. Nothing against Cochrane, but did we really need that song to be released a second time in twenty years?

Also, anymore Genesis covers by Nu-metal bands.

No offense, but we're talking good songs that have been covered to death, not crappy songs that we don't want to hear again.

That said, I actually like the Disturbed version of that Genesis song better than the original. which surprises me, because I'm not a nü metal fan at all.

Beat me to it.

I'll also throw out a general category of pop or rap songs covered by rock bands.

I think Luna's "Sweet Child" is great.

I love Toots' "Louie Louie."

I reserve the right for an artist to try to improve the original or do something original to the original, but if they're going to just do a xerox version, then fuck'em.

Is there or is there not a version of this by Ben Folds Five?

I was thinking of Sheryl Crow's version as the "one too many."

Didn't Madonna cover this a few years ago?

Yeah, I meant it's been covered 1 too many times. Perhaps recorded 2 too many, although I loved it as a kid.

I agree with the sentiment that if an artist is going to change the song in a way that it may add something, then its worthwhile.

Cat Power "Covers" record comes to mind immediately. So does the Trojan boxset of all 60s covers. Son of A Preacher Man has certainly been played out, but oozes with an all new sexiness in a downbeat reggae cover.

Imagine. I've never heard a good cover of it ever.

In fact, most Beatles songs. I much prefer Beatles songs played and sung by the Beatles, rather than anyone else. It's rare to hear a decent Beatles cover.
