So I'm thinking about taking a serious downgrade to the "Educational Studies" major. For those who don't know, I'm currently student-teaching, and it's miserable. I've been getting up at 6am every day, not getting home until 4pm (I know that's a normal day for your average adult), I've been sitting in classes that repeat the same stupid pedagogy bs over and over. I've heard about classroom management way too many times as it is.

I could go on, but you get the point. Or at least Phil does.

Am I ridiculous to think about accepting the major "Educational Studies"? Is it really that sad to have a major in a "studies" program. Am I being a pussy, should I just pony up and spend the next four months of my life being miserable, trying to get a license for a job that I'm not even really sure that I want?

One of my best friends failed his first student teaching gig. He kept at it, got his teaching job, and liked it for what it was. His heart seems to be in admin, though, and he's taken a high school AD job.

The main question, I guess, is what do you really want to do?

I think that I want to pursue my plan of teaching English abroad. In the meantime though, I'm just going to apply for the Peace Corps and get a job somewhere at home. I'm really not that motivated to do much nowadays and it sounds good to take it relatively easy for a while. I just definitely know that I don't want to teach right away and I can do without the licensure if I know I'm not going to use it anytime soon.

Christ, if it's only 4 more months you might as well finish it. Then you can decide later if you want to do the student teaching somewhere else.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend going into the Peace Corps either. Every person I talked to went in with high hopes only to find native indifference and a surprising lack of willingness to take active steps in helping themselves.

Finish it! If you're not feeling teaching after this four month gig, find a job elsewhere. Student teaching for me was rough as well, but I came out alright. No job is easy, son...

You might as well tough it out and finish. However as the child of two educators, I say run away from the profession as fast as possible after that.

I used to say if the worst came to the worst I could always become a teacher but I heard some people talking about it and they said you have to have a Joint Honours now so you can teach in two subjects.

So I can't even do that now.
