So, for Christmas our kids got the Playstation game Guitar Hero II. Needless to say they've been playing it......regularly. The game has tons of classic to modern, rock to metal songs that the player has to master. At any rate, my eight year-old comes home from school yesterday, on his birthday, with one word written on the back of each hand in ink:

FREEBIRD

Well, at least those "Alabamians" are from Florida, which is at least in the neighborhood, unlike so many other "Southern Rock classic" bands like Golden Earring (Dutch) and The Band (Canadian). Probably half of what's called Southern Rock on "South" compilations is by people not from the South.

I guess songs like "Radar Love" become South by default.

Still, there's plenty of Northern Good Ol' Boys who have songs like "Freebird" stamped into their personal psyches.

Who was the pitcher that was unable to play because he injured his hand from playing too much guitar hero?

And 'spoon, maybe I should have said "redneck" instead of "Southern" mind.

To be fair, Helm was from Arkansas. But your point is noted.

Nice. He's already ahead of schedule.

I didn't discover Skynyrd until around 8th grade. I'll never forget it though. I got Gold and Platinum ON TAPE for Christmas.

8th grade Christmas produced the following TAPES:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Gold and Platinum
REM - Green
Jimi Hendrix -Smash Hits
AC/DC - Who Made Who

Mowed a shitload of lawns to those.

Joel Zumaya. Not sure if his teammates lambaste him with cries of "shut up, Joel", though. Might be that.

to be fair, most "southern rock" from florida is from jacksonville/gainesville which is more like georgia than florida. i'm talking about the aforementioned skynrd, molly hatchet, 38 special, allman bros, and tom petty.

Do they have a multi player version for the "THREE GUITAR SONIC ASSAULT"?!
