pinback - blue screen life (that include three mile pilot, heavy vegetable, thingy, and his solo stuff, too)

. . . and if i take one spoon album it'd be series of sneaks but i realize that a lot of folks don't like that one and/or it's pretty different from kill the moonlight--maybe you need two from him.

are you trying to say that blue screen life is either light years better than or similar enough to everything else rob crow and zach smith have done that it's the only essential between the two?

no i'm just saying that everything rob crow does essentially sounds the same. have one and you have rob crow's schtick. just talking about him.

Agreed.

I also agree that you don't need to own Moby's "Play." I felt it was just representative.

I don't think the Weakerthan's "Follow" is anywhere near as good as "Reconstruction Site."

Personally, I disagree with the BKs being a one album type of band, just because I believe that they've changed their sound on each album. Rubber Factory, though, is the one if I had to choose.

If I had to choose one, I'd probably choose The Big Come Up, actually, followed closely by Rubber Factory in preference. I never hear/see anyone talk about tBCU and that album is friggin' fantastic.

I was thinking about bands that seem to release the same album over and over. What are some bands that have multiple releases where you really like them, but feel you only need to listen to the better disc because the other stuff is either the same, or not good enough?

Shins - Oh Inverted World
Crystal Method - Vegas
Nada Surf - let Go
Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
The Music - s/t
Moby - Play
Clinic - Walking With Thee
Guided By Voices - Human Amusements
Spoon - Kill The Moonlight

Do you find yourself still buying albums by bands who released discs that are your ultimate favorite, knowing that you will be let down because the new purchase is not as good? Have you ever been surprised?

Modest Mouse is one of those bands where I love 3 of their albums.

I disagree with all the artists you've chosen, except Moby. In his case I really don't give a crap.

let me guess, in this thread people suggest bands and then other people say "no way" and list other great albums in their catalog.

it's such a great album. perfect for when you're in a mellow mood. nothing else that i've ever heard from them or their side projects has even remotely moved me the way tsp has.

Cool. Another Ida fan on the board.
As much as I like Ten Small Paces (which is mostly cover songs) it never gets remotely close to one of the saddest records ever made - 'Will You Find Me'.

I really love a track I heard off k.'s (Karla Schickele's) 2001 solo album (New Problems. The song was "A Reminder". Reminded (heh) me of the relationship I had with a female friend at the time. Now our relationship is more... normal.

i had never heard of Ida, then my wife went and got a kids cd by Elizabeth Mitchell who turns out to be the singer in Ida. she has a beautiful voice...and as far as kids cd's go...it ain't bad.

What about the Beach Boys? They have lots of great singles, but isn't Pet Sounds the only album you need? Probably supplemented with a greatest hits. Someone school me.

I pretty much agree with the DJ Shadow and Badly Drawn Boy additions.

What have they done to you on the East Coast!

Don't really agree with most of the ones mentioned so far. About 80% of them you don't even need the album mentioned and another 15%, either the wrong album is selected or you need more than one.

Television "Marquee Moon" is an obvious one not mentioned yet.

Well I think it was to be taken as given that you wanted something by the artist. I mean, I agree you don't need any Dr. Octagon. But if you do, then Dr. Octagonecologyst is the way to go.
