Some coworkers and I are running two races together this spring and I've put myself in charge of making running mixes for everyone.

I need ideas (and songs, if you've got them uploaded) of some good upbeat, not indie rock stuff.

Z, I'm looking at you.

I actually prefer slower stuff when I run distances to pace myself. Defintely needs a driving beat though.

i don't have anything uploaded right now, but i'm sure you can acquire some music from me at some point this weekend. maybe instead of hiding my tv remote and sulking because you didn't hear a preview of next week's episode, you can say, "hey, i need some electro to run to."

what type of electronicA music? it varies.... techno, house, 'indie' electronic (ie: the hot chips of the world), 'indietronic' (ie: simian mobile disco, justice, digitalism, etc.) which is basically house & dance music made for hipsters, drum n' bass, idm, downtempo, trip-hop...

this is exactly my alley and i can def help with plenty of suggestions but need more specifics on what you're looking for.

alright... let's see if i can do this without embarrassing myself.

these are the groups i've heard that i like and would like to hear something similar to:

css
rapture
hot chip
deep dish

of the genres you listed, only "techno" and "house" don't appeal to me. i want something a little more rock, i guess. with a beat. does that make sense?

When I ride I have enjoyed a few tracks off of the Chemical Brothers's Surrender album, like The Sunshine Underground.
I also think some Fischerspooner stuff might be good too.
I can't think of some more rare, less poppy stuff off the top of my head, I'm guessing Dalen's mix will be top notch.

Funny, I didn't know the Chemical Brothers were from Nebraska.

yup. so basically, electronic music made to appeal to the rock kids. ;) here are my picks (some old, some new):

simian mobile disco - it's the beat
digitalism - idealistic
midnight juggernauts - 45 and rising
justice - phantom (faux re-edit)
fujiya & miyagi - collarbone
cassius - toop toop
yuksek - plastik
isolee - beau mot plage
the knife - like a pen
herbert - our love (has got me movin')
cut copy - glittering clouds
isolee - beau mot plage
new young pony club - ice cream (van she tech remix)
plej - you
tiga - pleasure from the bass
soulwax - i love techno
klanguage - all this time
unai - blissful burden
colder - to the music
anything from lcd soundsystem, daft punk, goldfrapp.
the gossip - listen up (tronik youth remix)
juan maclean - tito's way
metro area - miura
klaxons - the bounce (south central bootleg)
vhs or beta - night on fire
supersystem - miracle (the rapture remix)
sneaky sound system - i love it (bag raiders mix)

just to name a few. i could go on and on about this for days. a few of these tracks are up on a tune a day.

as far as dfa remixes go, can't go wrong with any of those.... but i'm telling you smd/justice/digitalism are the dfa of today.

hope that helps some.

Do they want more pop stuff?

I'd think something by the Killers would work.

Journey - Don't Stop Believin

Laugh now, but if you're struggling into that 3rd mile and those piano chords come on............please.

Under the Influence of Giants - Mama's Room

Tough to say. I usually go the opposite way. I don't like dance stuff when running. I want loud, fast, guitar, guitar, guitar.

sxsw! ;)

a lot of the stuff i post on atad is more electronic/dance oriented, so just search... i know unai, klanguage, and a few of those remixes are on there. plus a lot of the blogs are jizzing over quite a few of those artists like justice, smd, etc. so it shouldn't be too hard to find a lot of those tracks.
