After my Sloan revelation this a.m., I headed out of town to Dimples, 45 minutes down the road. I was hoping they would have one or 2 of Sloan's discs in stock, and I wasn't disappointed. Actually, better than not disappointed- they had the new one (which I already have) new, and they also had a copy each (used) of Pretty Together ($5) and Between The Bridges (also $5), so I was stoked.

Dimples also had the new issue of Mojo magazine, with the Love Will Tear You Apart Joy Division tribute, feat. Sparklehorse, Elliott Smith, Nina Simone, Elbow, Jarvis Cocker, Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, Galaxie 500, Elbow, etc. Man, this is mellow. :? I really didn't know what to expect, but if you need Sunday a.m. bacon-cookin' music, this will fit the bill. Dimples also has a good selection of incense, Hellcar (discs with loads of music and videos- this live My Morning Jacket is kicking my ass) shit and free local magazines.

The first Animal Logic murmured my name from the used bins. If you're not familiar, AL is Stewart Copeland (Police), Deborah Holland (vocals) and Stanley Clarke (bass). AllMusic's not too crazy about them, but I dig 'em. I've already got this disc, but for $4, I picked up another copy.

The rest of the discs you see in the pic were swag, put in my bag as I checked out, except for the Moses Mayfield EP,which was at the counter for $3. *shrug* What the hell. As you can see, they're mostly samplers. I looooves me some samplers. [img][375:500]http://img345.imageshack.us/img345/3265/cds7000by.jpg[/img]

Then, it was on to Elk Grove Brewery for lunch and a few brews. I had taken a growler for them to fill up with their very tasty Winter Warmer Porter (Brewed to keep you warm on a chilly winter’s night, this dark ale is slightly stronger than your average porter. Intense and multifaceted, the essence of this beer changes with every sip. Great with food or by itself, this beer is meant to be savored, not merely drunk. On tap in late November. Approximately 8.0% Alc./vol. Limited to 3 pints.) Ahhhhhh.

All in all, a very productive day. :) *hic!*

Is Sacto 45 min from you? Is that where you went? I've never heard of Dimples. Is The Beat still around?

i like intense porters. I tried that Rogue Smoke Ale Rauchbier tonight. i'll never get into those, i think, their smoke character feels like a trap more than a comfort.

Yeah, 45-60 min. away, but the Dimples I went to is in Elk Grove. There's more than a few Dimples around, inc. 4 in the Sac area.

The Beat continues to exist. I go in there once or twice a year, but don't buy much. The used selection is tired, and new prices aren't cheap. Too bad.
