I stopped by a local wine and beer shop that had just opened. Got talking with the owner and he recommended this beer:
Image

He poured me a sample and... it was simply the best beer I've ever tasted. It's indescribably complex.
Bitter.
Sweet.
Hoppy.
Carmel.
Floral.

All in sequence and simultaneously. And... wow.

Beer geeks: you must seek this out.
Perfection.

EDIT: 10.5% ALCOHOL!?!?!?

I tried the New Belgium 2° Below Winter Ale saturday evening at the techno bar, and was quite impressed. It wasn't as exotic as your beer and only has a 6.6% alcohol content, but it was damn good.

Alot of those Belgian Trappist ales pack a wallop. You'd probably like Chimay, but make sure you try Corsendonk.

I don't care for dark beers, so I guess I'm no purist in the eyes of some. But, having just spent 2 weeks in Mons, I decided this is as close to beer heaven as I'm likely to ever get:

As the owner of my favorite old homebrew shop in Athens said many a time, "the belgians make the finest beers in the world." You have to like the taste of alcohol (with anything above roughly 7% content it becomes a really active participant in the flavor scheme), but if so, they've had hundreds of years to get it right. I guess you have to pass the time somehow up there in the monestaries (sp?).

St. Bernadus and Saison Dupont are both really good.

I like Chimay Grand Reserve and McChouffe (a Belgian Scottish Ale) a little better.

I love going to the Brick Store in Decatur and trying whatever Belgians they've got on tap.

It's not the picture. It's just your natural mouthbreathing disposition.

We can get shmoo or some bona fide math geek to run the numbers but a bottle of the good stuff will get you sillier than a 12er of mgd. and probably for cheaper if you prefer longnecks to cans.

You know what I just realized? Somehow, we all escaped seeing:

"I had THE BEARS of a lifetime this weekend."

...huh.

Lump is waiting to spring that one at JUST the right moment. Probably with a photoshopped image of him with The Band.

As in, you can only afford to buy it once in your lifetime.
