Hey all,
Please help me out. I'm trying to select a merchant service for a new Internet-based business and there's some debate between my partners and I over whether we should use Paypal (more ubiquitous) or Google's emerging CheckOut service.

Any thoughts you have about either place would be greatly appreciated as well.

paypal has alot of detractors, but has worked fine for me the last 5 years!

I prefer google checkout. Just like the set-up better

i use paypal. i've used paypal via ebay and a couple other websites like bleep.com. it works just fine.

i've never used google checkout. no reasons for or against.

I've only used PayPal and have never had a problem with them.

I've only used Paypal once and it was fine but I get a lot of Spam with Paypal saying that someone has used my account on eBay or something and they are holding it until I can confirm, etc.

It's just spam because my account is never charged but it can still be annoying because I'm the type to check my bank account anyway to make sure everytime.

it's not spam from paypal just someone phishing for your info. as google checkout becomes more popular, i'm sure google phishing emails will go up.

I've also only used Paypal and I've only used it to purchase things, never to accept payment, but I haven't had any problems with it.

Wife loves paypal. She's the treasurer for our condo fees (there are only 6 units), and has everyone pay with it. Never seen / used Google Checkout, but knowing them it will get more popular.

I've never tried to accept money on Google but definitely prefer buying things with Checkout over PayPal. Much less clicking overall. I think you'll reach more people with PayPal, though if you have to choose one.
