Oh you're right about mine. She barely qualifies as a dog.

Stacey, post a photo of Sophie when she was a puppy. I saved that photo when you sent it long ago and fell in love with her.

This one, right? She was so tiny.

That's the one!! Ohmygod, she is soooooooo cute, she looks like a little stuffed toy. :)

Cute, yes, but I see those sharp little claws out there, and thank my lucky stars my dogs have grown up now. Nothing beats puppy breath, but I could do without the razor-sharp teeth and needle-like claws. ;)

Her puppy breath wasn't bad, but our papillon had absolutely horrendous puppy breath. I still shudder when I think about it.

They're very devoted, family dogs that pretty much want to be with you at all times. These two don't bark all that much, but when they do they make themselves heard with an intimidating, deep woof. They can be loud at times due purely to their size---our 6 month old male pup already weighs 75 lbs.

We've really enjoyed them thus far.

Actually, I think a Berner would do fine in the city---hell, I live in suburbia myself. Although they're large, they don't really need a lot of running room. I think you could take them on one long walk a day in the city, and they'd be content to spend the rest of their time at your feet in your apartment or condo. They're known for being pretty mellow once they mature.

You people are cruel. Everytime you start a doggie thread, you make me sad. But seriously, I lost my Rottie last year (actually it'll be one year this month after having her since she was a puppy which would be 12 years)...:( so Kerry, I can totally relate. It's one of the hardest thing to go through. It's like losing a family member.

Anyway, I've promised myself that as soon as I graduate, I will adopt a dog so the cycle will begin again someday.

at this point I don't think I could ever handle a dog again. That said, I think I am getting one as a wedding gift

You shouldn't say that. The privileges of owning a dog for 12+ years outweigh the mourning of a little while. I will own pets my whole life regardless of what happens. I probably would've adopted a dog now but I have Effie (so she's keeping me company in the meantime)...

Actually, what I meant to say was that I love the smell of puppy breath. Now that my dogs have grown up, esp. Bean, their breath smells like ass.

If you want a big, lazy, cute city dog, consider a French Mastiff (or Dogue de Bordeaux). They are ADORABLE! I would love to have one.

Dachshunds are great, and yours is particularly cute, Druucifer!
(I had one growing up, so I know how sweet and loyal they are... quite protective too, despite their small stature!)

Oh see, and whenever I think of puppy breath I am reminded of our papillon. Whenever she was near, it smelled as though a skunk had sprayed.

We have a collie, but I don't remember his puppy breath...

I do not know this puppy breath of which you speak! I should remedy this by getting a puppy.

thanks. we know for sure that her mother was a newfie. we've been told by our vet, and other random people, that she looks like she has flat-coated retriever in her too. that would explain why she is not HUGE like a newfie. she is 10 months old, and is weighing about 65 pounds.

i'm feeling like an ass now too, because i totally neglected our other beautiful wonderful pup, seamus:
