I'm still chuckling over Bob being called a liberal.

Thanks, v8.

Yr fun.

I know I run the risk of sounding like a whiney indie rock elitist, but another thing that helps being accepted into the indie rock community is that you've had to have read the Communist Manifesto (and embrace it). You also need to hate your job, hate life, be an art school drop out (or be any college drop out), be vegan, and write at least one (1) song bashing Bush. Oh, and be Buddhist.

most musicians in most genres of music tend to be smug so what who cares if you like the music listen to it and if you don't then oh well no one will make you listen to it, this is such a silly debate that it hardly warrants disscussion in "the Arena of Ideas"

Now hold on there, 8-er, some of us are anarcho-syndicalist communalists.

Buddhists. The very thought. Tsh.

Indie rock as a whole has become so calculated and, dare I say, predictible over the recent years: 1) you have to have at least one female in the band that plays either drums or bass, 2) you need as many obscure instruments on the album as possible, 3) you need to have weird and/or long album/song titles as possible, and 4) it doesn't hurt to have at least one single or album on vinyl.

I used to enjoy "indie rock" not for the sake of being part of the "indie rock" elite, but for left-of-center, original, non-conforming music. However, I never thought I'd see the day where I'd grow tired of it as a whole.

So, if you have a band of diverse gender, instrumentation, and lyrical/title content, along with releasing music on a variety of mediums, that makes you unoriginal and conformist?

That's my specific reponse to your arena of ideas, my in general response to this kind of crap is stop listening to hipster shit and spend some time with the "classic/pure" indie rock releases (1986-1994) that are sitting on your shelf.

Buddhist? huh, I must have been listening to the wrong indie rock, I think Buddha would make a good singer for a stoner rock band

Well, then, why the fuck isn't your old running mate Jerry F. a Got-damn international rock/techno sensation? He's got the hate job, hate life, college dropout, & buddhist things down.

Also, dude, the "chick on bass" isn't an indie maxim, at all. It's the White Zombie Principle. Get it right.

It's pretty hard not to judge music solely on the music.

so you can hear when it's a girl playing the bass?

I play bass, but that's only because it's the best instrument EH-VAH...and it is one among various instruments.

You're already doing a good enough job of it yourself, fuckwit.

Wow. Just wow. You are a stereotypical liberal. Profane and inflammatory, yet unable to engage me in the arena of ideas.

You know nothing of my political leanings. I am a moderate, not a liberal. I'm fine with you calling me names, but be accurate about it. Fat ass, old fart, etc. are totally acceptable. But NOT liberal!!!

Me 'n' FT don't do arenas anyway. We're all about the tailgate.

And maybe beach volleyball and Mountain Dew with hot Baptist college girls.

I love indie rock. But most of the people who live the indie rock "lifestyle" are flakes. Seriously.

I mean, I live near a big university. I imagine most of the students there listen to, say, Belle & Sebastian, Arcade Fire, etc. Incidently, all the trash cans, stop signs, bus stops in the immediate area are vandalized. They are either spray painted with: "Fuck Bush", "Stop Bush", "Stop the War", etc. Now the malcontents that did this are skulls full of mush. They are obviously indoctrinated with leftist propaganda. I mean, you don't see conservatives doing this.

And cars with pro-American bumber stickers in that area (if you can find them) normally have their tires slashed. How do I know, I was a victim of leftist rage. I guess I shouldn't have had Bush bumber stickers on my car.

Which ties in with my next anecdote. Just the other day I'm walking down street and a dented up Volvo pulls up to me. The driver rolls down the window ask for money becasue he claims he was running low on gas. When I said no, he gave me an ugly look, called me a "nazi" and sped off.
Want to know what bumber stickers were on that car? Green Peace, John Kerry, Death Cab For Cutie, "Stop Global Warming".. etc..

Now, if that isn't illustrative of a liber- PROGRESIVE!!
