Kinda how I felt about Napoleon Dynamite.

I don't see what inspires all the hyperbole on either side.

Although, I've been told that it's "a grower".

Suppose I could see that.

It was a subtle grower - it took a while for me to realize how great it was. I was pretty ambivalent towards it at first but it was one of those albums that I kept putting in the player, though I wasn't sure why, and no matter how many times it played I never tired of it.

Just heard it myself last week. Went out and bought it Monday. I have not been disappointed.

They are getting airplay in Minneapolis - 89.3FM The Current. What a great station - owned by Minnesota Public Radio....no commercials!

I heard it once when I loved it.
I had it on in the background while I was working, but the last minute of track 3 when that kicked up into high gear, my feet were tapping, and I had to crank it up.

Jam!

Did anyone see them on Conan last night? I fell asleep on my couch as I was waiting for them to be on.

took a little while, but it's currently my #4 fav new album to listen to on a daily basis.

not a grower in a tv on the radio -sense, but still takes a while to soak it all in. majestic in chunks.

Can't stop playing it.

I think it's the the emotion in the music. It's not just evident in the way they sing, it's in the actual music.

And some songs hit you harder then others, that is if you're receptive to the album at all. For instance "Rebellion(lies)" is unfuckingbelievable.

Yes, the album does take a few listens...But grows on you very quickly...
I just saw them play live the other night, and I can say it was one of the best shows I've been to in the last several years....Sounded good, but the energy was amazing....

Grower, schmower. I didn't hate it a la Grandaddy, but it did damn near nothing to grab my attention to necessitate any further time investment into something that just ain't my cup of tea.

I have had Funeral since it came out. It did not even make my Shmoo list. However the other day, I listened to it in its entirety while walking on a beautiful winter Sunday afternoon and was blown over by it.

Peace

Even their first album (or EP)?

I haven't listened to those in quite a while, but I'm pretty sure I still like 'em. Sumday is really bad, though. I don't expect much more from them.

My boss was asking me about Arcade Fire, so I gave him a copy, and he was blown away by it.

And you know how I feel about the album. I love them. And I'm itching to see them live again, they are friken fabulous live.

Sumday was atrocious. I had A Pretty Mess By This One Band from eMusic, but neither did much for me. I'm not one to keep revisiting shit like this to find some sort of silver lining. I figure there's plenty of other shit out there that is more up my alley, and refocus my efforts on finding it rather than droning over something I don't like.

Funeral was a grower for me as well. That, coupled with it being a year end purchase resulted in it not making my top 20, but it would be in the 5 - 10 range now.

I've not so much as heard a single note of Arcade Fire.

It comes out here this month so I suppose I'll have to pick it up and see what all the fuss was/wasn't about.

It was one of the very few movies that struck me right off the bat.

I've only heard it once.
It still has plenty of time to grow on me.
I can see that it may have the potential to do so. I'll have to buy it first and give it time.

Track 2 is my favorite, though rebellion (lies) is great too. Liked the album from the get-go, AND it grew on me. It's pretty rare that that happens, and I love it when it does.

I didn't think too much of Grandaddy at first. Re-listened to sophtware slump recently and found some tracks in it that I think are quality. I'll probably give it another listen or two, but it will probably go back to sub-rotation.
