All year, I thought this was Moby.
It sounds like something that would have been on "Play" that he remade for a newer album.

That is all.

I thought it was Gorillaz at first.

At first being the operative word in this sentence.

There haven't been ANY threads about Gnarls Barkley this year.

This song had the shelf life of a gallon of milk.

If you were exposed to it three weeks after initially having some, you found that its no longer drinkable any more.

For me, the song is timeless. Heard it a million times and I've never grown tired of it.

There's this new band from New York that is gonna save rock'n'roll. I think they're called the Strokes.

If you pulled a Glock on me and said "hum a Gnarls Barkley song or I'll shot you in the god damn head you fucking asshole!" I'm afraid my brains would soon be making contact with the flock wallpaper.

It didn't make it much past the 3 listens for me. First time I heard it I thought it was slightly more interesting than the other songs/videos on muchmusic.

Thing is, for the average JoeTop40 it sounds 'groundbreaking'. But for anyone who's been listening with some awareness to music for longer than, let's say... 7 years... it's a bit of an old song & dance (straight out of 1999).

There's Moby (already mentioned the first ref that comes to mind) but then there's that whole other stream of stuff that came out around then:

Primitive Radio Gods - "Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand"

St. Germain's "Rose Rouge" (I think that was the one that had the shit played out of it)

Mr. Scruff - "Get A Move On" (the blatant rip off of Moondog)

Even my dearly beloved Cinematic Orchestra were in on the "sample the black man/woman" shtick.

and I'm sure you guys could list even more.

(they also didn't impress me live---lots of attitude & ego)

I'm afraid I don't hear much difference between Gnarls Barkley and TVOTR. I like both, but somehow marketing has made one an R&B group and the other an indie rock band.

I like the song, but when I play the album there are other songs I look forward to more.

I really like the album.

I especially appreciate the seriousness of the verses vs. the giddiness of the music. "Hey Ya" is about divorce and how Andre don't wanna get married because of his parents marriage problems. "Crazy" is a personal song about mental illness.

So when they booties bump to 'em, it's like when people slow-danced to Metallica's "One."

Fun times y'all.

I can understand the comparisons, but I think Cee-Lo's amazing vocals make it unique.

one comes from an indie rock background and one is made up of a hip hop producer and a rapper.

Absolutely, as is most of the rest of the album. If you haven't listened, you haven't listened.
