Tom Waits has settled a lawsuit with a German automaker and an ad agency for what he said was an imitator used without his permission. Waits' attorney Kevin Marks says the lawsuit against Adam Opel A-G and advertising firm McCann Erickson was settled in a state court in Frankfurt, Germany. He says details of the settlement are confidential, but Waits will donate the net settlement proceeds to charity. Waits does not do commercials. He claimed a singer imitating his voice and style appeared in Opel ads that ran in Scandinavia after he turned down several offers to do the commercials. Waits says in a statement, "I'm glad to be out of the car sales business once and for all."
