I would to, but there aren't enough artists that I'm interested to spend the money.

The Palomino Stage kicks so much more ass than The "Mane" stage.
It's like real Country Western Music versus what they force you to listen to on commercial country stations.
Sadly I have been forced to deal with half of the mane stage artists in the last year.

Totally agree. The Palomino Stage is where you'd find me at. 'Sides, Emmylou Harris -- I absolutely love her!

i saw dwight yoakam last year and felt extremely out of place wearing puma sneakers, jeans, and a t-shirt from turntable lab. it was a great show, though!

i briefly thought about going to this. The sunday palomino stage lineup is pretty great. And unlike my fear with lots of events like this, other than Ramblin' Jack Elliott at another stage, everyone I'd care about is on the palomino stage so there'd be no risk of conflicts.

But other than Willie Nelson, I really don't care much about the Saturday lineup and they don't let you buy for just one day. But if I could get a ticket for under $100 for Sunday and they'd hold this thing in say March rather than May, I'd probably go. But $160+ ticketbastard + hotel + all the other misc expenses, it just isn't worth it to me.

I love country too, but care less about seeing it live than most other genres. A whole day of it might be too much for me anyway.

could you recommend me 5 or so albums that you deem great from that genre?

Some of the big artists, I only have comps:

Lefty Frizzell "Look What Thoughts Will Do" which is great
Hank Williams "The Original Singles Collection Plus" - amazing
and a Merle Haggard Box which is also great

if you want some single disc studio album recs from other artists:

Louvin Brothers "Satin is Real"
Kris Kristofferson S/T
Marty Robbins "Gunfigher Ballads and Other Trail Songs"
Johnny Cash - either of the prison albums
Tammy Wynnette - Stand By Your Man

That's a start...I didn't recommend Willie or Waylon not because i didn't concur but someone else will recommend the right albums quickly. Its also been my experience that everything I've heard in the American Milestones reissue series is Gold.

I like that they are having the Old 97s and Alejandro Escovedo.

why's that? i'm curious. i think it's great live. well, i think country-related genres like honky-tonk, bluegrass, and western can be way better live than recorded.

Pretty sweet line up for the Palomino stage.

I have no problems with George Strait or Alan Jackson.

I don't know that i've ever seen a country artist live. Conceptually though I throw it in the singer-songwriter type artist. I enjoy a lot of singer songwriters at home on the stereo but tend to be bored by most of them live when I have to devote 100% of my attention to them and they play a straightforward, even if good live rendition of the material. I'd usually rather listen to country at home but see rock live. Its a good music vs entertainment issue if that makes sense at all.

lemme tell you, i dig alejandro escovedo, but he is boring to watch. Seriously, he's nappytime.

But while i dig that palomino stage, i don't think i could go to stagecoachella, even if it was logistically possible, because i'm not down with the nashville pop country at all. It creeps me out a little.

yeah, i saw alejandro escovedo two summers ago and he wasn't exactly jumping all over the stage, but he sounded excellent.

also, old school freight train is awesome. i learned about them through one of those dumb bluegrass tribute albums (this one was to air and they covered "sexy boy"), but they are not cheesy.
