This album is great. Probably my favorite by them.

Nope. I don't see how anyone could really differentiate the music they were making on the first one from the second one other than the recording quality went up considerably on Chutes. I file this under the "I heard X first therefore it's better" phenomena (see also Weezer.) I likes 'em all equally, just wish the first one didn't sound so hollow.

I agree with every word of your post, Tom.

I'm a big fan of the first one over the second. To ne the second one only had a couple of tracks I liked and then a bunch of forgettable ones. I enjoy the first one from the begining to the end.

The first one was folky pop, the second one was straightforward power pop. The first one had a unique and charming sound, the second one sounded like 10,000 other albums. I could see how one who likes power pop could like the two equally or even prefer Chutes. I can't see how someone couldn't identify a difference between the two though. I agree with you about Weezer, but of course, I think all Weezer sucks equally.

I totally disagree. The recording was part of its charm.

I agree with opa. Chutes seems like they finally got into a "real" recording studio, turned the knobs up to 11, and applied a slick veneer to their sound. It made me think I would never like their recorded music again if Oh Inverted World only sounded that way because they didn't have access to a real studio. That's why I'm pleasantly surprised that the new one sounds at least a little closer to Oh Inverted World in mood than Chutes did.

You know, by the way, that if I get this Boston jobby, I'm swinging by Ayah's place, throwing her on the back of the bike, and making tracks for Jacksonville as soon as I get there, right?

118k, according to PFM, and it was #2 on the Billboard charts. Pretty impressive:

Yeah, I shouldn't have said "swinging."
