Band of Horses: recording new album
Posted: 26 Jan 2007 11:57 AM CST

Band of Horses members, Ben Bridwell, Creighton Barrett and Rob Hampton, will begin recording their sophomore disc in March at Echo Mountain in Asheville, North Carolina. Phil Ek is producing the album, the ears behind their Sub Pop debut Everything All The Time.

Ben Bridwell and Creighton Barrett disclosed with Pitchfork that the band will "do some of the overdubbing in Seattle," though recording most of the album in Asheville. "Right now there are 10 songs that I would consider serious contenders. Ten songs that are pretty much done. Some of the lyrics might not be done or whatever, but the melodies are set and they have their changes for the most part. I'd like to go in with around 15, so I'm still working on getting some more going."

Band of Horses will be playing a short tour "for our Southern brethren," their first set of shows since touring Australia in December. "We'll be welcoming Robin Peringer (Carissa's Wierd, 764-HERO, Modest Mouse) on guitar, and Matt Gentling (Archers Of Loaf!) on bass for this Southern jaunt," they wrote on their website. Carrie Anne Hearst and The Gun Street Girls will be opening the shows.

I am so happy for these guys. When I heard they lost their guitar player I was wondering if they could make the magic happen for a second album. I saw a show with some stand-ins playing guitar and keyboard (and bass?) and it was nowhere near as stellar as the original line-up.

Adding Peringer and Gentling could make this a really cool album and a good tour.

I'd like to see them this time around, since I missed them last fall in NC.
