Quote:
John Gorman yesterday walked away from his job as Cobblers booss, admitting the pressure of managing the Coca-Cola League One strugglers got too much for him.

The Scot, who has been in the job 6 months, handed in his resignation 'for personal reasons'.

Quote:
It is with regret that Northampton Town Football Club have to announce that John Gorman has officially resigned as manager and has left Sixfields with immediate effect.

This follows a meeting between John and David and Tony Cardoza on Wednesday morning when John's offer to resign was reluctantly accepted.

Northampton Town Football Club will now begin the process of searching for a new manager immediately. In the meantime first team coaches Ian Sampson and Jim Barron will look after first team matters.

Chairman David Cardoza said, "We are very sorry that John has had to make this decision. He did so for personal reasons. We continue to hold John in the highest regard and we wish him all the very best for the future.

"Ian Sampson and Jim Barron will take care of first team affairs until further notice as the process begins to find a new manager."

Quote:
David Cardoza has spoken about the resignation of boss John Gorman.

"It's very sad to see John depart," said the Cobblers Chairman to BBC Northampton.

"I got a call from John on Wednesday morning saying he wanted to meet to talk about things. My father and I discussed those things with him and John felt it was in his best interests to hand in his resignation.

"John is a very nice guy, very well liked and we totally respect the personal reasons for his resignation.

"The search for a new manager has already started. We have already had phone calls, emails, faxes and no doubt that will continue. We will make a decision as quickly as we can but we have to take enough time to get it right and appoint the right man.

"It's far too early to rule anyone in or anyone out. The January transfer window is coming and we want to have someone in place who is in a position to strengthen the squad."

Quote:
Northampton Town Football Club have rejected a six figure bid from an unnamed club for defender Luke Chambers.

"Luke has been with us since he was a very young boy and has matured into a very fine player and we do not want to lose our best players," said Chairman David Cardoza.

"Neither do we want to stand in the way of a young player to progress their career, but if a player is to leave this club then they will only do so if we feel the offer matches the ability and market value of the player, and is right for the club. No one will be leaving here for less than they are worth as we are very ambitious and keen to build a squad that is capable of moving us further up the Football League ladder."

In addition, the club have circulated the names of strikers Scott McGleish, James Quinn and Andy Kirk as being available for transfer.

"We are keen to strengthen the squad considerably in January and if that means that a few players have to leave to give the new manager, whoever that may be, the chance to do that then so be it," said Mr Cardoza.

"In the meantime the players are still under contract and are still very committed to doing well for Northampton Town.

"We anticipate that the new manager will have the chance to be very active in the transfer market in January.

"These decisions have been taken with the full knowledge of the players involved and the caretaker management team."

Early favorites (favourites) for the job are Sven Goran Eriksson, Gazza & Ian Atkins.

I KNOW, I FUCKING KNOW.

Sven Goran Eriksson? I don't think he would go down to League Three (as it should be called).

I wish our manager would resign.

Some stupid phone in poll from the local paper. I'm looking at Phil Parkinson, Ian Dowie or Nigel Clough.

I have just subscribed to Setanta sports on the digital, so i can watch a load of matches from SPL. Can't wait to check out Motherwell. I was a huge fan of Malpas as a player. Have you signed Paul Keegan yet? Good little player man.

I suppose that you all need to put up with all the stupid NFL threads, so it's only fair that you get to talk about THE REAL football.

Believe me you can wait. Although our next two home games are against Rangers and Celtic.

I'm not sure if we've signed Paul Keegan yet. I'm staying away from the Motherwell message boards because I called everyone "fucking idiots" and they didn't like it much so I'm keeping a low profile.

Shit, Rangers & Celtic, guaranteed they will both be on TV. Could be painful.

I gave up on the NTFC board after my 'Gorman can't fucking handle it' thread in early Nov descended into naming place/date/time for fisticuffs. The guy did not turn up.

This followed my Eoin Jess : Player of the year thread in September that was laughed at. Wait till May.

Dicks.

Paul Keegan signed.

Also some speculation about Andy Kirk from none other than Northampton....

Darrin any news on Scott McDonald & the Southend bid/situation?

I'm hearing that he is on his way and Andy Kirk is the replacement.

It's looking like Southend can't put up the money required.

They bid £300,000 but we turned that down pretty quickly and are looking for £1,000,000 although we would probably sell at around £750,000.

Anyway with Southend looking like getting relegated I doubt McDonald would want to go there anyway since he wants to leave to go to a 'higher profile' club to help his international aspirations.

To be honest I can't see him leaving until the summer now although there was some speculation about him going to Rangers but Rangers '1st choice' target is Alan Gow of Falkirk and it looks like they will get him next week.

Hey Darrin, spot on with McDonald, i hear that Rangers did not offer enough. Foran to Southend though, should be interesting.

We have signed Kenny Deuchar from Gretna. Hey we need a big target man but from what i have heard he has struggled to get to grips with Div 1. Our boss has claimed that when he was at Wolves they had Deuchar scouted and came close to snapping him up but plumped for Carl Cort instead. Now Cort is a damn donkey. Have you seen Deuchar in action much?

I've only seen Deuchar a couple of times on TV. He didn't look great I have to say but his goal record is superb albeit in the 2nd and 3rd Divisions up here.

We won't miss Foran much, lazy bastard and his good goal scoring record doesn't stand much scrutiny (i.e lower division clubs in the cup competitions and penalty kicks).

According to the blow hards on the major 'Well website they are going to start booing McDonald from now on because he said he was 'gutted' that the transfer didn't go through. The guy runs his heart out for years for the club, scores loads of goals, is our best player by a mile and those bunch of ingrates won't even let the guy take a step up. Bunch of pricks! I was just about ready to ask one guy for his seat number so we can sort it out tomorrow! They should be happy he's here until the end of the season instead of victimising our best player because he wants to move to a bigger club, but no not Motherwell supporters, the biggest bunch of moaning faced bastards on the planet!

I should log on to see if I've been banned for calling someone a 'dummy cunt'.

Haha, that sounds similar to what has happened here in the last week.

Local lad, Chambers, come through the youth system, signed for Forest on deadline day. He really wanted to continue his development under Calderwood and play for a club with a great history. Good luck to the guy.

But he is Scum and they (a few knobs from the messageboard) are gonna deck him when he is next out in Northampton.

Anyway i look forward to 66 goals in 82 games Deuchar. We expect a hat-trick on his debut. Nothing less.

Don't know what anything in this thread means but am willing to nod here and there in hopes it will vaguely approximate cosmopolitan awareness.
