I'm going to Montreal for Vietnamese and sightseeing. It's not even worth watching the game for the ads anymore; they've been mostly lame the past couple of years.

I hate the whole Superbowl thing. I'm not a football fan and never watch the game. I know practically no one who is a football fan. Yet, I'm invited to two Superbowl parties this Sunday so a bunch fo people who know nothing about the game and care nothing about the game can go through some ritual. And, move the damn thing to Saturday already. If its a party day where everyone's gonna be drinking all day and into the night, don't hold it Sunday with Monday looking. Oh well..at least I can have some drinks and annoy anyone who shows up with an actual interest in the game. And, it's an excuse to hungover on Monday.

Now...do I go to a lame party with my wife or a more interesting one on my own since she already promised people she'd go to one place but is OK if I go somewhere else?

Or, do I just mandate a personal boycott on all Superbowl activities and stay home?

I ain't got no plans for Super Bowl Sunday. I don't have cable, so watching tv is a bit of a burden right now. Instead, I'm taking my suicidal friend out to lunch and meeting with other friends later for Paul Weller's gig.

I work in the Aon Center, which is the tall one, and they sent out emails and had the head of security walking around taping up instructions on each window the day beforehand.

I went out to Buckingham last night to get this and just about froze my balls off.

all of the lights are on, but they pull down the shades around the letters. there's a notebook with every window shade in the building. a maintenance guy has been coming along our floor late every afternoon this week just to fix shades wherever someone may've adjusted them. (we get bad glares on monitors in the morning.) they do this all the time. our building said "go sox" in 2005 and has had "bears", "da bears", "bear down bears", and "nfc champs" this season.

You also had "Sox Pride" which was my favorite sign in 2005. The guy that is in charge of BCBS knows the score. The head of CNA also gets it done... the Bear Head on the side of the building is top notch.

If anyone is really that into football they should be watching were they can pay attention and with other like-minded individuals. Anyone who will be stopping by any super bowl party I'm at should be well aware beforehand the lack of actual sports fans that will be present. Besides, it's just a game, dude. Even with sports I like I know when to just lighten up. Most sports fans take this shit way too seriously.

Good excuse to eat chili too. Which I will be starting with in just a few minutes.

Go to the party with your wife, and get busy in the bathroom.

Yeah but didn't you say that you're GOING to someone's Super Bowl party? If so, then you're just pissing on their parade.

Sounds like you're the one who should lighten up.

Yeah...it's technically a Super Bowl party...but it is not hosted by anyone who watches football...and the likelyhood of a hardcore football fan showing up is a longshot at best. For many people the whole thing is just an excuse to have a a party. Do you really think that if it was all just about football as many people would give a crap about the game? It has become a social event far beyond any signifigance of the game. Thus, even people who could care less about the sport still hold parties. Look around whatever party you end up at and count the percentage of people who half pay attention to the game.

Whatever you all do...go have fun..whether that means detting some drinks and laughing at it all or painting yourself and screaming like a maniac or anything in between.

Oh yeah...who's playing again?

I gotta go stir the pot and get rolling.

Yuck. Hope s/he got dessert - no point dying without trying the pie first. Did you cheer this poor soul up?

No cable, hate football, so just reading and such here.
