isn't this post really just a chance for you to plug prefix mag?

oh, and could that video be any more amateur?

yes and no. i figure some people would check it out and appreciate it. it'd be cool if people checked out prefix but since i provided the direct links it's probably not so likely. if it was strictly a matter of plugging i would've linked to prefix only and not the vids. so the answer is yes it's a plug but i'm thinking you guys would be interested in the vid.

so what's the deal with prefix mag? it looks like you have enough content on there to not have to streetteam webboards like here and hip and that you are sincerely just spreading the wealth.

that's not at all intended to be antagonistic btw - i'm genuinely curious.

we get pretty good traffic but not nearly the level that pfork has. it's really difficult to make inroads on them and as amateur as it may seem, message boards definitely help traffic and more importantly google page rankings. although i definitely promote prefix at all the msg. boards i frequent, i also try to post things that people will appreciate and i also try to comment on things in general. i figure if it's really bad that the mods will just ban us.

also kph,
how long have you been in boston? i used to go to college there about 4 years ago. is the middle east still big for shows?

i've lived here proper since 2001, but i mentally moved here around 1998. let's just say a lot of my vacation and and weekend time was spent here...

yup, the Mid East is still pretty much the same as it was 4 years ago. they may not attract quite the same number of non-major label/booking acts as they did in the past, but that's largely a result of the Paradise's re-entry to the scene (along with the club i help, Great Scott, although we "compete" with the Upstairs room only). the Dise is really the only other 500-600 head count room in Boston metro besides the Mid East Down, so it [ed. - the Mid East] will be around for a while, i hope. they're also promoting larger scale shows at the Somerville Theatre and Roxy now, which is cool to see.

yeah, that's prob. more info than you cared to get, eh?

good luck with prefix - alternatives to PFM are always a good thing in my book.

that was all pretty interesting stuff. i went to school at b.u. and i remember that paradise was primarily for eurohouse and not shows when i was going to college there. i haven't been back to boston in a few years but i had some good memories of going to newbury comics and in your ear in addition to wasting time when i was at college. thx for the words of encouragement. the site should be much better by year end either that or i'll be much poorer.
