Am I the only one who thought the Prince thing was actually pretty good ( as these Halftime things go ) ?

1. The performer almost always mimes along to a recorded track, or it's a mix of live/tape.

2. I give him credit for doing other people's songs, too. I completely expected nothing more than "Here's a medley of my 5 biggest hits".

NO Prince fan at all, but I thought it was fine. BTW, I watched it with the drummer's dad.

it was kind of lame, but i give Dungy a lot of credit for realizing that the risk discrepancy was larger between his defense and their offense versus his offense and their defense. Colts O vs Bears D? 9 vs 9. Colts D vs Bears O? 7 vs 3, especially if they're passing the ball. well played. thank god the bears lost. they were who we thought they were, a great D and devin hester with Rex. terrible.

I know you're just trying to be a gracious loser, but that's a clever trick implying that the Colts had to play a good game in order to beat that awful bears team.

hard to forget the nfl changing rules on receiver contact after the colts complained. afc championship this year had a horrendous roughing the passer and a 'face guarding' interference call that was not called on the same play tonight. and why don't you go ahead and include steeler players in with us boston sports fans?

There is a decided lack of Bears fans in this thread.

I thought Prince was awesome.

I just got home from watching this thing on one of the greatest things I've ever seen. A 62 inch HD TV sunken into the wall with surround sound. I could actually read the text on the Highlighters that Dan Marino and Boomer Esiason had on the broadcast desk.

Commercials were awful. The only one I mildy laughed at was the Sierra mist Beard Combover ad.

Tony Dungy is class all the way. So was Lovie and Urlacher.

Also, Bears fans, is Rex your starter next year??

Just a question that was floated around the party I was at.

I say of course but some had a differing opinion.

Yeah, except in the 4th Q when Urlacher made that tackle and then pulled the runner back down after he started to get back up. What a douche.

I believe that the receiver/defender contact rule is more rigidly enforced. It was already on the books, the officials just decided to waive it to get glamour boy Tom Brady in the Super Bowl (again).

(See how one can play the "they got the rules changed" thread the other way?)

As to the game this year, it came down to Manning not being as bad as people have suggested, nor Brady being as good. Plus, football is a team game, anyway. (Isn't that the Belichick model? Isn't that why Deion Branch, Ty Law, Lawyer Milloy got dumped??) The Patriots personnel has changed over one time too many, prolly, while the Colts have gelled, finally.

& Steelers fans are rowdy, but not assholes. I ain't going to knock them. Cowher is a lucky sumbitch, though. Average coach for whom the law of averages finally came thru. (Or, whose decision was it to start Kordell all those years? Who thought he was a Super Bowl qb?)

Everything save Hester went wrong for the Bears (o-line, defense, bad tackling, Grossman, turnovers, 3rd down defense, coaching, no defensive pressure, we start the worst safety in football in Harris)... you factor all that along with the fact the Colts were the better team and there's not much more to say.

There will be a battle for starting QB next year but Grossman will come out of camp the starter.

I can't be responsible for things that happened on the TV screen, in front of my face, after the 7th beer.

Guess I was speaking to Urlacher's post game comments.

i never said anything about steelers fans, i was referring to steeler players speaking out about the fact that the refs were trying to hand the colts the game, but failed. and on the receiver contact, the rule was changed because the colts whined, it is not simply enforced more stringently.

and here's some reading for you on the face guarding call that you failed to address: http://nfl.aolsportsblog.com/2007/01/26 ... -bad-call/

allow me to cut and paste some for you...

Vic Ketchman writes a great column on the Jacksonville Jaguars' official site, and he says he talked to a league official who told him it was a bad call:

Ellis Hobbs should not have been flagged for pass-interference. He didn't make contact with the receiver and in no way did Hobbs impede Reggie Wayne's ability to catch the pass.

Phil Simms said on the CBS broadcast that Hobbs was called for face-guarding, but former NFL referee Jerry Markbreit says in his own great column on the Chicago Tribune's web site that face-guarding isn't illegal:

A defensive player who makes no contact with an intended receiver, even though he is not looking at the ball, commits no foul ... the interference must have been caused by the defender bumping into the intended receiver, without looking at the football.

Let's put two and two together: Ketchman says Hobbs "didn't make contact" and Markbreit says "A defensive player who makes no contact...commits no foul." It sure sounds like the Patriots got screwed here.

Haq, go fuck yourself. The Bears went 15-4 this year and have vastly improved themselves as compared to 2005 when they went 11-5 and one and out during the playoffs. While I'm incredibly disappointed by the result of this year's super bowl only a jive-talking, cardigan-wearing, future ambulance chaser could state with any seriousness that the Bears are a bad football team.

The Bears were outplayed, and I give great credit to coach Dungy and Peyton Manning who played an excellent game, and are most deserving of the NFL title. They stopped the Bears' potent running game (knocking out Cedric Benson early was a huge blow), and Rex wasn't able to pick up the slack with the passing game...this time.

Most definitely. For those calling for Rex's head right now, think about this for a minute: this was his FIRST complete year as a starting QB. If you look at all the great QB's in the modern era such as Favre, Montana, Marino, etc., they all struggled in that first year but showed streaks of brilliance.

Rex will be back next year and better too.

very enjoyable game, sloppy as hell but fun to watch.

it's kind of funny that Manning finally won with probaly his worst team and with the exception of the end of the Pat's game, a pretty all around terrible playoffs.

Bears were completely outplayed, outcoached, and outclassed.
The better team won.

And, I don't think it's just because I'm a Bears fan but, was that one boring as hell game (after the opening kick)? Little tosses underneath, one after another.

And yes, the Bears should have made adjustments to account for that plan, but they didn't. Also, it seemed that they couldn't tackle for shit last night.

Still..
PRINCE was the Shit!
