SO, I may be in the market for a new laptop, which will serve as my work and home personal computer. I think I want to go MAC.

looking for guidance on which one to go with. I'm not too savvy in the world of non-PC type computers.

What I want is something with a built in internal wifi modem, so i can log on anywhere there is a wifi signal. I'd love to have something that I can upgrade the hard drive and memory, so i can stick with one computer for at least 3-4 years. and all the usual stuff. primarily its for web browsing, music d/l'ing. I want to burn CD's as well as DVD's...

whats my best bet?

I'd never consider switching to Apple but that's just me.

My only experience was using them at school in grade four and thinking how utterly lame they were.

I've noticed that Apple computers are much improved and know that others who use them, swear by them (and not just graphic designers)...but I'm leery that there's still not enough software available and if their products are anywhere near as reliable as their iPod's then I ain't buying one, ever.

You do realize that no one uses floppy disks anymore?

Yeah, not sure but, I think they've come a long way since these:

You will be happy with this. I just got a new iMac after using PCs exclusively for 5 years and I will never go back. All macs now run XP (or Vista) AND the mac OS. You just pick which one you want to start up with at startup. I find myself using the mac os exclusively though. All of the big pc programs have mac equivalents (eg, word; excel; of course photoshop, etc.)and so far I have not had a problem with taking a word doc that I made on my pc and editing it on my mac, etc.

The main benefit you will find is the software that comes with the mac like iPhoto, iMovie and others. This stuff is just so much more fun to use. The wife is not so electronically-inclined and she has been able to figure the basics out as well. They're pretty user-friendly.

The only worry I would have with a mac laptop is networking with pcs away form home, where you can control everything. If you start up as a pc you can only access your pc files. So, for instance, if you had a word doc saved within your mac os files that you want to print out on a pc network at school or work, you may have a headache. For desktops, mac is king though.

Oregon Trail might be the single most shared experience for our age group. Word Munchers was pretty stellar too.

I only use the PC now to check email when the kids are on the mac or to listen my Launchcast station.

Gone Mac in just a month and a half.

I've only had Mac computers for as long as I've been computing and find pcs to be annoying and confusing. Today I had to use word and it is an obnoxious and overly complicated program that I HATE

This is the correct answer.

i will never understand the people who prefer pcs. i get it if you are in a field that requires them i suppose. makes no sense that someone with the option would choose, but then again there are more chevys on the road than benzos.
