...and, go! I don't care who it is, as long as it's fun to play and involves fingers moving up and down the neck in roughly the same position (monty, this is not an invitation for lechery).

You can't go wrong with just about ANY Metallica song. Or were you looking for something "cool"?

nmr: and nrtttt (not related to this thread's thrust): I am more an arm and sides man anyway. Necks just don't do it for me.

Except for those Thai women who add a slightly-larger-than-their-necks'-size ring to their necks every year, thus lenghthening them. Eventually, those giraffes wouldn't even have to be in the same room to fellate you.

"Smoke on the Water" is actually a different sort of chord....it's a sort of 4th or something....

"Hopeless" by the Wrens....fuck pretty much any song off the Meadowlands has an F or Dm (or both) chord in it

The smart-assed answer is "Circle Sky" by the Monkees

I got a million of em though. Name me artists you're looking for

That reminds me... both Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground and Fell in Love with A Girl are great songs to learn power chords on.

Yeah, I would say most of the songs on "Nevermind" are power chords.

"Lithium" and "In Bloom" are just about all power chords.

im not sure i understand what you mean by "learn power chords"....

isnt it the same shapes played on differnet frets?

learn the 2-3 finger positions then learn chord progressions : I - IV - V etc.

I know that power cords are not particularly unique, and I'm aware of the shapes, but I never make it beyond like the 6th fret, so I just need a few songs that will let me get used to doing so.

I suggest 'Sweet Jane' by Velvet Underground or 'Basketcase' by Green Day. 'Smoke on the Water' is another I was going to sugest but someone already has.

Nrivana's Nevermind is an excellent primer for power chords, and playing along with Weezer's blue album is pretty good too. What is it with early 90's records I love and power chords, power chords and more power chords? Basically any "alternative rock" band you heard on the radio at that time almost exclusively used power chords. Maybe that hasn't really changed that much, except that I stopped listening to the radio years ago.

The first two Stiff Little Fingers albums can be played entirely with the G/A/D combo.

this one will test your strumming ability.

my mom always said I'd be a good strummer.

Early REM records are good for working on strumming. No solos, it's all about what the right hand is doing. Actually most jangle pop has excellent strumming.
