I've said it before, and i'll say it again: Interpol's lyrics suck.

That guy from Nickleback writes the worst lyrics ever
Exhibit 1
"Your mom don't know that you were missing
She'd be pissed if she could see the parts of you that I've been kissing"

Exhibit 2
"Is that your hand on my girlfriend?
Is that your hand?
I wish you'd do it again
I'll watch you leave here limping
I wish you'd do it again
I'll watch you leave here limping
There goes the next contestant"

Exhibit 3
"I like your pants around your feet
And I like the dirt that's on your knees
And I like the way you still say please
While your looking up at me
You're like my favourite damn disease "

I'd like to dedicate this to all the children

Since knowledge is infinite
It has infinitely fell on me, so um...

It was a stormy night, you know the kind where the lightnin' strike
And I was hangin' out with some my artsy friends
ooh wee ooh wee ooh wee
The night was long, the night went on, people coolin' out until the
break of dawn
Incense was burnin' so I'm feelin' right, aight

she's a pretty horrible singer too.

"oz never did give nothing to the tin man, that he didn't already have"

the dlievery makes it even more funny.

Is anyone here prepared to say
Just what they mean or is it too late?
For anyone here to try to do
Just what it takes to get through to you

So let's all make believe
That we're still friends and we like each other
Let's all make believe
In the end we gonna need each other

Strangle my hope and make me pray
To a god I've never seen but who I betray
To the people who live the afterlife
And the place I'll never be 'til I'm crucified

So let's all make believe
We're still friends and we like each other
Let's all make believe
In the end we'll need each other
Let's all make believe
That all mankind's gonna feed our brother
Let's all make believe
That in the end we won't grow old

So let's all make believe
We're still friends and we like each other
Let's all make believe
In the end we'll need each other
Let's all make believe
That all mankind's gonna feed our brother
Let's all make believe
That in the end we won't grow old

Now that's just plain ignorant. Don't get me wrong, based on her first couple of singles I wasn't into her either, but a friend hipped me to her live album which will kick your ass up and down the street till you can only sleep face down. Plus, she takes the above lyric, which admittedly sucks, and makes it more than work in the live setting, where it's clear that it was the kind of thing that was inspired by the jazz tradition, sporting a particularly strong billie holiday influence. Then she KILLS Chaka Khan's "Stay", to the point where she just plain outperforms any version of it that Chaka has recorded, hitting notes that mere mortals can't imagine, and not in that shrill whistle that mariah is famous for, but like a woman who's had her heart ripped out and cannot be consoled.

Then there's Mama's Gun, which is one of the best albums in the last decade.

And those two albums are all you need to own by her, you can find them used on the cheap, and your life will be enriched.

But i fail to see how you can make a statement like that unless you have only a passing aquaintence with her work. I figured that you being a hip hop fan would have at least dug her singing that Jill Scott penned hook on You Got Me off of Things Fall Apart. Maybe you think that's a bad vocal. I'd have to disagree with you. I'd also say that it isn't representative of her range of vocal expression in the slightest.

Hope I didn't come off as a total dick, but if I did, I'm sorry. Not much I can do about it now. Now go check out those two albums.

i was going a bit over the top with calling her horrible, but her albums bore me to tears and i can't wait for them to be over. Her voice gets on my nerves after one song and i i understand what she's going for, but after the inital shock of "hey, people don't sing like that anymore" it leaves me limp.

Just for one song...gotta nominate whoever did the lyrics for My Humps..I'm still not sure if she's talking about her ass or her tits.

Wait - you don't like these lyrics?

What you gon’ do with all that junk?
All that junk inside that trunk?
I’ma get, get, get, get, you drunk,
Get you love drunk off my hump.
What u gon’ do with all that ass?
All that ass inside them jeans?
I’m a make, make, make, make you scream
Make u scream, make you scream.
Cos of my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump.
My hump, my hump, my hump, my lovely lady lumps.

I met a girl down at the disco.
She said hey, hey, hey yea let’s go.
I could be your baby, you can be my honey
Lets spend time not money.
I mix your milk wit my cocoa puff,
Milky, milky cocoa,
Mix your milk with my cocoa puff, milky, milky riiiiiiight.

It's entirely possible.

- I don't listen to radio, except xm (and mostly just xmu at that - college format indie).
- It's not being used on any commercials during shows I watch.
- I sure as shit don't seek that bullshit out.

I hear a lot about it, I guess, because people talk about crappy music a lot. But I have no idea how it goes.
