So, there is this girl that works in my office. She is 21. Just a few moments ago she started singing, "Everybody Hurts...Sometimes...etc". I decided to ask her if she knew who sang it. She was like, "ummm. Foreigner"?

HAHAHA. I had to get up and leave the room I was laughing so hard. I think she was close to tears because of how much I was laughing at that answer

SHE THOUGHT IT WAS FOREIGNER.

hahahaha

Musical or biological? Both are disturbing and violent in terms of effect.

Man. Never thought REM would be one of those bands that had songs that are so ubiquitous that people are simply aware of them even if they don't know the song or the band but there you go.

Into Hegel's pants? Why - to find the other thumb ring?

HAHA.

dammit that was funny radcliffe.

And trust me timmyjoe. She was not joking. In fact, she was so outraged by my outburst that she went to the four other coworkers in my area who are all over 21 but under 27. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF THEM KNEW IT WAS REM. One of them googled it and tried to lie about knowing it was REM. They all knew the song though.

Don't let her find out you were laughing at her, Joe, or she'll run out into the parking lot, lock herself in her car, and pull a Dwight Schrute.

I'm shocked by this. I work with a bunch of people who know relatively nothing about anything that was released before the late 90's that still know this song and REM.
I think not knowing the Velvet Underground was a classic band is the worst I have had to deal with recently.

Speaking of Foreigner, if you ever get the chance to listen to their live album, jump on it. Before each song, they lead into the song by saying something related to the name of the song, such as "Looks like there's a lot of pretty girls out there, and there are some DIRTY WHITE BOYS up here!" then they play dirty white boys. I wish I could remember all of them -- they are TEH HILARITY!!1!

I wish I didn't know it was REM. It's a pretty boring song. I envy your co-worker.

this sounds like the first time i saw the hold steady. notably, craig went on a tangent about people who try to give themselves nicknames. he stumbled around the stage and then was like, "i've been trying to get people to call me freddie knuckles." and they went into "most people are djs." awesome.
