Abdullah's hacking the shit out of Mark E. Smith in that first pic.

The second pic is like meeting The Edge's youth pastor nephew.

The madman from Sudan is approaching 70... eesh. I feared him, Bruiser Brody, Buzz Sawyer and any other guy who might be certifiably nuts in real life...

Abdullah retired from the ring and now owns and manages his eatery "Abdullah the Butcher's House of Ribs and Chinese Food" in Atlanta.

Seriously...

Abdulluh The Butcher
Written by Rick Clark

Lawrence Shreeve was born on January 16, 1941 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. In 1958, Lawrence took up professional wrestling as his career. That career has spanned six decades and a few pseudonyms along the way. He is best known as Abdullah the Butcher; the Bad Man from the Sudan. In his biography he is suppose to be from Kahartoum, Sudan. However, he has also been known as Pussycat Pikens, Kuroi Jujutsushi (The Black Wizard) and Zeras Amala.

At 6'1" and 360 lbs., Abdullah is an imposing figure to say the least. But when you look at the deep scars on scalp and forehead, you know that he has been in some major ring wars. Some of his favorite weapons over the years have been forks and pencils, which he gouges into the skin of his opponents.

He has had more managers than any wrestler that I can remember. Among them would be: Gary Hart; J.J. Dillon; Paul Jones; Eddie Creatchman; Black Baron; The Grand Wizard; Damian Kane; Larry Sharpe; Oliver Humperdink; George Cannon, Bearcat Wright, Big Bad John, and Rock Hunter. Many of these managers were there to "control" him. Gary Hart used to put a hood over his head to calm him before and after his matches.

The reason he had so many managers was to keep KAYFABE. You see Abdullah was not supposed to speak English. In fact, he speaks it very well and he is an intelligent individual contrary to his actions in the ring and his personal appearance.

Besides all of the scar tissue on his head, he received second and third degree burns in a match several years ago. His skin was hanging off of his chest.

He had many memorable matches with Archie Gouldie (The Mongolian Stomper) in Canada. From what I hear they didn't like each other, but they sure put on a great show and made a lot of money. There were many times when he would shove people off their chairs just so he could beat his opponent over the head with it.

Many of the scars on the face and body of Dusty Rhodes are courtesy of Abdullah the Butcher. In a match in 1976 in Douglas, Georgia, Abdullah produced a Bic pen and proceeded to jab it into the forehead of Dusty Rhodes most violently and repeatedly. The story has it that not only were people running out of the building, but a woman had a heart attack and died right there on the gym floor. Before the match was through, both Dusty and Abdullah were pouring their blood on the arena floor. They say that everyone in attendance that night left feeling they got their money's worth.

Wrestlers weren't the only targets of Abdullah's wrath. Steve Hall, a referee, tried to take away Abby's pencil and got stabbed seven times in the head for his trouble. The back-up referee, Scott DeMarc, ran out to disqualify Abdullah and got a chair shot between the eyes for his trouble. Nobody was safe from this mad man. Fred Richards, another referee, was clotheslined and thrown into a row of chairs by Abby. This tore his brand new shirt, sprained his ankle and bruised his collarbone.

Many fans claim that after seeing him as a child that they still have nightmares twenty years later. Now, that is impressive. Abdullah has qualities that will inspire nightmares. Besides his huge build and the deep scars, he has been said to have the eyes of Satan.

His dietary habits were somewhat legendary. Along with the normal bill of fare, he has been known to eat announcer's ties, raw liver and raw fish (not sushi, just a big old raw fish), and my personal favorite: He killed a chicken with his bare hands and ate it in front of a crowd in Puerto Rico.

Talk about working a crowd: One night in 1984 in Montreal, Canada, Abdullah the Butcher goes after Jacques Rougeau with everything but the kitchen sink and he would have used that if it was available (he did use one on Frank Brody in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1987). He stabbed him with a fork. He strangled him with TV cables. He smashed him with chairs and tables. Then to top it off he goes over to ringside and starts mocking the fans in a fake French accent. They go ballistic and start throwing their chairs at him. It took over twenty police officers to get him back to the dressing room and Jacques Rougeau had to come back out to show the crowd that he was bloody, but otherwise unharmed to keep them from rioting.

His strangest match was at Halloween Havoc in the WCW. He lost the match and was put in an electric chair and electrocuted. He even had foam coming out of his mouth. It was truly disgusting and very realistic. If you went to see a match with Abdullah the Butcher you were guaranteed a gruesome and bloody match filled with foreign objects and violence.

Abdullah the Butcher wrestled all over the world. He has been in every major promotion in the world including: WWF; WCW; NWA; AWA; WCCW; Stampede Wrestling; WWF Canada; CCW; and several promotions in Japan, Puerto Rico (WWC), and Europe.

He has faced a who's who of wrestling in the more than forty years of being in the sport. Those names include the great ones like: Cactus Jack; Sting; Bruno Sammartino; Bruiser Brody; Carlos Colon;
Ric Flair; Dusty Rhodes; Andre the Giant; Dino Bravo; The Mongolian Stomper; The Sheik; Terry Funk; Harley Race and Hulk Hogan.

Now, you may say what does a man like this do after wrestling for over forty years? Well, he owns Abdullah the Butcher's Rib House and Chinese Food in Atlanta, Georgia. A lot of fans have stopped by and talked to Abby and had their picture taken with him. A few of the luckier ones received a complimentary head from the Great Abdullah the Butcher. He has also done some acting in The Big Brawl.

I think the dude running that wrestling site has lost sight of the fact that wrestling matches are staged. But, yeah the Butcher was nuts.

Sure it's staged. But people still get hurt...

And why not further the legend, I guess.
