Someone on another board I go to linked to this guest blog by Anthony Bourdain on a site called Ruhlman. It's pretty funny stuff. He's analyzing the current crop of chefs on the food network.

http://blog.ruhlman.com/2007/02/guest_blogging_.html

Kitchen Confidential was a fun read also.

Has anyone read his novels? I'm not sure if they're worth checking out or not.

I haven't read anything by him, but I love "No Reservations". He also has a restaurant in DC I need to check out.

Quote:
PAULA DEEN: I’m reluctant to bash what seems to be a nice old lady. Even if her supporting cast is beginning to look like the Hills Have Eyes--and her food a True Buffet of Horrors. A recent Hawaii show was indistinguishable from an early John Waters film. And the food on a par with the last scene of Pink Flamingos. But I’d like to see her mad. Like her look-alike, Divine in the classic, “Female Trouble.“ Paula Deen on a Baltimore Killing Spree would be something to see. Let her get Rachael in a headlock--and it’s all over.

Haha.

KC was a great read and full of errors [1st edition]. They must've put a lousy editor on the job thinking the book would get little attention. I bet it's been corrected since.

I think we've had this conversation before.

I take the guy to be a fop disguised as a black denim, Lou Reed-styled NY hardass.

He's a chef, for crissakes.

But I enjoyed Kitchen Confidential for what it's worth. I appreciate the fact that he is dismantling chef celebrities.

SANDRA LEE: Pure evil. This frightening Hell Spawn of Kathie Lee and Betty Crocker seems on a mission to kill her fans, one meal at a time. She Must Be Stopped.

Not sure I get it. Not offended, but . . .

"He's a [****], for crissakes."

****Insert: any profession

So, what?

As far as any "disguised fop," well, is that to mean any person who maintains some sort of RnR attitude?

It seems you've a bone to pick with him.

No bone to pick. I actually think the guy is more genuine than the FoodTV production crew funnels through their reality-tv filer.

I get ya. NeZ's "point to" blog shares Bourdain's suspicions along with yours. You may wanna check it. It's basically a call out for authenticity at FoodTV.

The Ace of Cakes Guy, sounds like most every Cuban Bakery in Miami. Looks good. Don't taste so good. When in Miami, just drink the cuban coffee, stay away from the pastry unless it is bread or a filo tapa like empanada or pastelito con carne. Ok, I am guilty of a guayaba con queso every now and then.

And, Giada, what a head on those shoulders, but you can tell she loves to cook.

I wouldn't credit Lou with being so macho. That tranvestite on the cover of Transformer...Lou's piece at the time.

And, I like when the food guy eats weird stuff and he has a comercial praising the lyrical genius of the Ramones, so I'm I like him just fine.

I post on the Fender Forum and someone had linked to it there. I don't read blogs much so I've never heard of the Rulhman one but it seems legit.

Are they saying this isn't Bourdain's writing?

Right on with Paula Deen's "Divine" comparison and Giada's HUGE noggin.

I don't think so. I think Bourdain definitely wrote it.

She's such a bobblehead. Maybe they should ease off on the wide angle lens.
